This is more of a feeler as its still winter here and i sadly haven't gotten to drive my beautiful bike yet ![]() Anyway, i recently installed Shorty ASV levers, and that may have been a mistake, clutch pull was heavy before and now with just two fingers i feel that after a good 15-20 mins in traffic my fingers would likely want to fall off. Anyway my question is those of you that did install a new slave cylinder, would you recommend changing out the springs on the clutch pack as well? I bought the bike second hand and it has a DP pressure plate, but I'm unsure of the brand of springs that are on it... are there springs that offer easier clutch actuation? So i've been looking at purchasing an Oberon Clutch slave cylinder which is 29mm and possibly a set of Corse Dynamics Polished SS clutch springs (will those springs work with the current bolts and caps i have or are there different sizes out there) Here is a picture of the setup that is currently on it: ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us My clutch also squeaks and i need to appease my OCD to make sure this is normal before i proceed with the season, here is a quick video: Ducati 1098s Clutch Squeak - YouTube Anyway this post is probably already far too long for such a simple question and I'm probably just overreacting but again... the OCD ![]() Thanks guys. I installed an oberon 29 mm slave on my 08 1098s yes it made it much easier to use. your shorty levers will make the clutch even less friendly .Doesn't sound bad to me . It's an open clutch even sitting still it's noisier then a wet clutch, they are kind of klanky all the time. and the more worn they are the louder they get. you either love the noise or hate it.
I've never really heard of any lighter springs I have heard of people just removing 2 springs , in fact right now my bike has a ducabike 4 spring slipper clutch in it . it works like butter . so I don't really see why you couldn't just pop out 2 as lond as they are opposite to each other. that's also free to try it. Drez,
I recommend replacing your springs if you have not, or are unsure of the current springs. The stock springs that come with the 1098 rust quickly and are cheapily replaced with Corse Dynamics, Speedymoto, etc... springs, which are all the same size, (which will fit the current caps and screws) and made from stainless steel and will not rust. I run a 30mm DP slave, and it makes it easier. Just ride it...once the bike is started that squeak is definitely non-existant.

From what I can see of your springs, they don't look like OEM springs. It's likely that the previous owner installed some SS springs with that pressure plate. I have an EVR 30mm slave and I love it. Not too much weight to the clutch and not too little, although it would be harder to pull with shorty levers. I have full size CRG Roll-a-click levers.

My OEM springs have never shown signs of rust
Replace them if you want, with stainless, up to you. Clutch pull tension can be simple augmented by spacers on the pressure plate. But, go ahead, if you want to spend up |

Hearing so many different things from various places about weather or not a new slave makes it easier, but honestly its a pretty cheap mod to do so even a little bit of improvement might make it worthwhile.
I'll wait for this GD snow to melt and get out for a ride on this thing and decide what i want to do from there. The levers are just big enough to fit 3 fingers if my normal two get fatigued so that's good i guess. Haha, thanks for the replies guys! |

I live in Hawaii, so needless to say it rains everyday. Stock springs don't last long in this climate.
