ducati 1098 starter clutch

The bike has the speedcell battery and is fully charged up runs grate but lately has been turning over a few times then the starter spins off and just spins freely and now it will only turn over once or twice then the starter will spin freely. does this mean my starter clutch has went out?

sounds like it.
my mechanic tells me it's quite common and that i should keep it well charged and full of fresh fuel so it doesn't turn over too long before it fires up.
