Default coolant tank

Hey Guys, looking for some advice on what to regarding the coolant tank on my 1098. I believe it burst on me while stuck in traffic. The bike got quite hot and then all of a sudden a bunch of coolant starting coming out my belly pan. I stopped, let it cool and then continued on home without issue . i havent taken off the side panels yet to investigate but just wondering if something other than a stock tank is available. I see aluminum replacements for the older ducati bikes

Maybe you should take off the Fairing and see what's going on, eh? Bstar is correct the plastic tank isn't going to burst...

I'd make sure it wasn't an end cap on the radiator itself.

I could see the tank cracking as it gets old but not bursting

Earlier bikes have coolant expansion tanks that are pressurized and spray coolant when they leak, so aluminum replacement tanks are often used. The 1098 however, has a pressure cap on the radiator which releases coolant if the pressure in the radiator get too high when hot. The relief tank catches the coolant but itself is not pressurized by the coolant release.

have you had it serviced recently? maybe over filled the expansion tank?
it's there to collect coolant from the radiator as it expands with heat, then it's drawn back into the radiator as it cools, there's a max and min mark which are relevant when the bike is cold, if it's overfilled it purges out of the tank into an overflow hose that empties under the bike.

Did it get hot enough to overheat or just to 217ish? If it didn't get above 217ish and there wasn't a whole lot of coolant it's probably fine.
