Hi all,
Noticed last night that there is a fairly strong smell of fuel out of one of the intakes on the 1198. Only one (the right side when sitting on the bike). I did fill up before riding about 16km where the smell was picked up. It was still there this afternoon after riding to and from work today.. Is it anything to worry about? I didn't overfill/spill any fuel, stopped filling just as the fuel touched the bottom off the inner neck on the tank. cheers Brett |

...dunno...the intakes go directly to the common airbox.....that's odd to get the smell from only one side....

My 1098 smells of fuel only out of the right side intake after riding also. The smell dissipates after a few hours and initially I have to be fairly close to the intake to even notice it. It's been like this for a long time and I haven't been concerned about it. I guess that the smell is from the right side intake because the injector for the horizontal cylinder is offset to the right and forward in the air box. If I could smell fuel from much farther away I'd investigate whether the injector was leaking, etc.

Yeah Steve, but it isnt offset by a huge amount..but it's plummed from the right, so maybe a conector leak.
Dunno, but you'd still think the smell would be from both, given that the comon filter lays inbetween the throttle bodies ....unless the RH filter/airbox seal is somewhat less than perfectly seated....that may be letting the fuel smell waft through more readily. ....if this is the case, then other particles and contaminates are bipassing the filter also.

My bike often has a fuel smell even several days after parking it. The fumes come from the tank vent hose that pokes out the bottom of the fairing.

The larger 'hose' is from the airbox... the one you squeeze to open?....airbox.
