Default Cracked radiator is not the end of the world!

My rad started leaking at the top tube just under the upper mount. As luck would have it, this happened the night before a scheduled (and prepaid!) trackday. I googled radiator repair shops, and the next morning, set out to find somebody who could fix it THAT MORNING. The first shop I brought it to fixed it for $30 in about 2 hours, saving the track appointment and saving me having to buy an expensive new radiator - so far so good.

Default coolant temps

...and on a related note, I refilled the system with 20% antifreeze/deionized water with 25ml/L Water Wetter. The coolant temp never went above 160F all day, (low 80's F. ambient temp).

You can try taking it to the dealer for good faith warranty after trackday. AMS Dallas did that for mine took about 1 week ans had it back for about $100!!

You could have also put pepper in it which is said to seek out and temporarily fill a crack.

Crazy right? I thought so too until I saw it posted on an enthusiast car forum with many others participating in the thread noting it and other at home remedies. I still wouldn't do it.

Glad to see your trackday wasn't completely ruined. It's the exact reason I bring spares to the track and do my tire changing at home. I HATE working on bikes trackside. Tire pressure adjusting is the max for me!

I run Honda HP coolant as it comes from the bottle. Last Sunday's trackday in 102* ambient temps. net 185* coolant temps in the 1098 with ported coolant sensor housing.

Yea I thought about that but I'm starting to feel a little guilty. Ducati already good-willed my a $13,200 motor rebuild and a $2500 fuel tank. Not bad for a second-hand ebay bike. They already paid out more than I paid for it.

Ya maybe throw in some Bars Leak in an emergency but no liquid bubblegum repair on the Duc for long-term repair.
