Unbelievable
Have you ever heard of Copyright law! It’s this thing that says that if someone owns the copyright to a document then it’s illegal to copy it and then offer to give it to someone else….FREE or not. I’m not 100% sure but I’m guessing that Ducati owns the copyright to the 1098 repair/service manual. And you, on and of your own free will, advertise, on a world wide forum, about the DUCATI 1098, with a forum name “Ducati spot”, that I’m guessing at least ONE (who knows???? Maybe even 2) person that owns a Ducati AND maybe WORKS for Ducati just might read your thread and see that you are offering, for FREE, to anyone who might want it, a copyrighted document that they charge $100 for. Call me crazy, (and I’m sure I’ll get called PLENTY of things for writing this) but I’m thinking that these people, who own this document, just might get a little pissed that you are distributing said document for free and come knocking on your door. Come on. You are kidding right? I mean it’s bad enough when people put out a thread asking if anyone has a copy that they can share but you advertise that you have one you are WILLING to share if anyone out there wants it!! BRILLIANT!!! Come on! Seriously. Is it THAT hard to spend $100 for the manual that tells you how to care for the $16,000 to $20,000 motorcycle you just bought? Sorry for the rant folks but this is something that gets me EVERY time I see it. $100 bucks. REALLY.I know I could NEVER sound like Elton because I’m simply not that intelligent. However, I needed to put in my $0.02. Peace

Wow, nice rant! You make some valid points, but I thought as long as you didn't "sell" it, it was alright to share. However, I guess your not supposed to make copies of movies, or music and share them either, even though people do it all the time, so your probably right. If this is in fact illegal, then yes I would agree, it shouldn't be shared. Well, there's another $100, but after over $20K what does it really matter right? Keep it legal!

Saving money on what would have cost the factory 50c to put on a CD that should come with the bike allows me to purchase more of their over priced DP parts. Just a thought. Cheers Ross Last edited by Rosco; March 3rd, 2008 at 06:28 PM. |

I’ve made my point and in the end, people will do what they think is right no matter what one man says. Maybe you will “share” documentation. There is obviously nothing I can do to stop that. I would however, highly recommend, not advertising your activities, on an international forum. Avaliable for any normal person to read........and lawyers as well!!! I’m done with this rant. Keep the rubber side down and ride smart. FAST, but smart. ![]() Peace

Thats cool, I respect your opnion.
There are quiet a few forums for different bikes that pin service manuals for their members. Technically it is a breach of copyright but I cant get too wound up about it when it's a not for profit situation. If it was being sold, that would be a different matter to me. Sharing knowledge is a good thing, it's what the internet was invented for. Well that and porn. Cheers Ross |

As I said before. I'm done with this rant. I will say however that I appareciate the civil tone this thread has kept. No name calling. No references to anyone’s ancestry. You know what I mean?
Yes the internet is full of information. Both legal and illegal. It's up to the individual as to do what they believe is right with that information. JUST DON'T ADVERTIZE WHAT YOU DO!!! MOOKS!!!! (couldn't resist!)PEACE OUT!
