Default What bikes have you guys ridden, and how does the Duc compare?

Hi guys,

New to Ducati, but have been a fan since i could rememeber. Ive been on an 09 R1 for about a year prior to this, and honestly the 1198 just Blows that bike out of the water! Cant believe the night and day difference.

Where as the R1 was a boat, the 1198 is much more nimble. Also cant believe the amount of torque this thing has...ive "accidentally" wheelied numerous times already

All in all, i don't think im ever moving away from Ducati

I own an 08 848
Ridden:
09 ninja 250:doesn't compare obviously
09 ninja 650r: engine character is similar, handling and power don't compare
06 R6: turns in much more quickly not as stable in the corners low end doesn't exist. top ends are comparable.. ish the Duc still has the motor all over it
11 GSXR600: way more comfy, turns quicker, again not as stable mid corner mid range is good but not on the same level.
08 and 10 Triumph Daytona 675: great bike duc is still faster but that's a great bike
08 built CBR1000 track bike w/194 hp to the wheel: Can't compare for obvious reasons. its insane
08 zx6r and 10 zx6r: 08 isnt in the same league, the 10 is a FAST bike at the top end for a 6
13 zx6r 636(got an exclusive early test ride) now this is where I may catch some flack, that bike is DAMN good, so so good, mid range is on point, top end will likely pull on my 848, it power wheelies a lot for a 600, flicks side to side brilliantly it's just a better all around bike than my 848 I'd say.
But nothing compares to the Ducati styling and character
Oh and a 1985 RZ350 sweet old bike!

Before the R1 i was on a 06 R6 and i agree with pretty much everything you wrote, except i cant believe its comparable to an 848 top end... Theres just no way in my mind thats possible.

My r6 was a hog throughout its Rpm range up until 12k. Not to mention its false 17k rpm reading lol

Also ride my dads Moto Guzzi breva 1200s every once and a while. For being a sport cruiser, its actually a really nice bike to ride! Turns in easily, accelerates fine, and is extremely comfortable for long trips.

Haha yeah that 17k is ridiculous, I will say my Duc still has the top end on it which is why I added the comparable.. ISH lol if my buddy gets the jump on me I'll reel him in until about high 5th gear where I'm slightly pulling on him but not significantly like I do in the first 4 gears. I mean both bikes do top out at 166ish and they race together(albeit the R6 motors are super built). But yeah the Duc still has the top end on it but not by a HUGE margin

lol, i missed the comparable...ish part haha but yea either way i would choose an 848 over the R6 any day of the week! the design alone already makes it 10x better IMO

I've owned an '06 R6 before my 848 EVO. R6's engine was obviously way smoother, no power at all until 9k (even with -1/+2 on the sprockets). Way more flickable but nowhere near as stable and confidence inspiring as the Duc. The R6 also gathered nowhere near the attention as the 848.
'02 998-It was my boss' and I rode it in traffic, I thought the engine had even more character, dry clutch took some getting used to but he went -1 on the front sprocket so taking off was way easier.
'06 Daytona 675-probably one of the best bikes I've ridden. Great power everywhere, smooth engine, flickable yet stable. All around great bike, the reviews don't lie.
'91 Sportster 1200-Scary, miserable experience. I'll never go to cruisers
'10 RSV4 Factory APRC SE-ergonomics felt better than my Duc, soooo much power! Felt super light despite weighing more than my Duc. That was .my first and only experience with a QS and that sealed the deal. Amazing bike! Oh, and the sound was amazing as well!

I really enjoyed the Daytona 675R my friend has. I can't wait to ride it again honestly, its a nice bike. Its not quite at the level of a well setup Ducati, but its pretty good for what it is and the price.

I actually ride KTM's now and really enjoy my lil Duke 690 for street riding. Its an impressive little machine for what it is, which is just a simple single 650cc machine. Its pretty quick and is perfect for around town. It has fully adjustable suspension, 749R brakes, slipper clutch, 320lb dry, 70hp. Its the best around-town and fun canyon bike I've ever owned/ridden on. Yea, its not great on highways, but thats why you have a long distance bike! heh

I've ridden the RC8 a bit as well and its no Ducati either. Well, I should re-phrase that, in completely stock form its good. But once you start upgrading the Ducati with suspension work, geometry kit and such, the Ducati is lightyears better. The RC8 doesn't have much room for modifications outside of the obvious replacing the garbage WP suspension with Öhlins. Which is costly and stupid.. IDK what KTM are thinking about, trying to make a superbike with suspension thats underdeveloped.

My 749R race bike was still my favorite, followed closely by my 848 race bike. Nothing I've ever ridden has come close, held a candle to either one of those machines.

I have a 2010 1198 with all the suspension upgrades. It handles amazing and is the best bike to this day that I have ridden.

I rode a 2010 bmw 1000rr for a while and it is very fast and extremely easy to ride. It handles good but could definitely use some suspension adjustments. I would not buy one.

I have ridden several cbr 1000's. They are no where near as fast as my bike. I pull away from them in every straight and corner. Even when I switched bikes with my friends I could not even come close to keeping up. The cbr was easy to lean into corners.

I have a ridden a 2009 gsxr 1000. It was pretty fast and had no problem keeping up with my 1198. It was easy to turn in but I felt the tires slipping all the time. I think if he had better tires it would handle better. I could never own a gsxr. I don't like the way the look.

I want to ride the new zx10r and a rsv4 factory. Those are on my list of things to do.

I used to own a r6. I think it would be a great track bike. I wish I did not sell mine. I don't think I would buy another one though.

I really like the 675r. Triumph built a great bike with a the best suspension set up for it's class. All around the 675r is a much better deal then any 600 or the bast 675. I would probably buy the 675r over an 848.

Rode an 03ish Gsxr 600 converted to a 1000 and made a streetfighter. Sick loved the tq and engine power. Actually maded more power on the dyno than my bike with more bottom end tq.

Rode a 10 cbr1000rr. Actually hated it. No character at all, and very boring to ride. Didn't really pull till 6k. I will say I liked the fact that it felt like it would run forever just like their cars do.

Rode a Panigale... End of story, craziest ride I've ever had. So much so I'm buying a 13 next year lol.

I would probably agree with that.. IF I had to buy each one new and stock, being that my 848 has ohlins front and rear on it I wouldn't trade the two but if I were out to buy a new stock vs stock you can't really beat the 675R, just a great bike and great value, I mean 13k with that suspension and the carbon upgrades
