clutch torque

Clutch torque

I’m stuck!

Thank goodness it is raining here.

I am at the re-assembly of the clutch.

I would like to get the torque setting for the (8) 12mm bolts that hold on the clutch basket.
And the (1) large 32mm nut.

I look here and couldn’t find it.

Does anyone help out with this?

Sorry to hijack your thread but how did you get this nut that holds the clutch drum in place off?

BTW, the small bolts on the drum are 35 NM and the big one is 250NM according to the service manual.

That big one is a real mother f—ker to loosen.

It is a 19 mm hex/allen socket bit.

I had to next day the dam thing in from Grainger’s. Nobody had this odd size in stock.
And get this, it is a ˝” drive, (no problem) but try to get loosen by, without the help of an impact gun and good f—king luck!!!!

Even with my impact gun at 120 PSI took some doing to back it off.

I thought I was going to get a section of pipe about 5 to 8 feet long to break it free.

You will also need a clutch holding tool as well in order to remove it. If you need help in finding one let me know. Prices range from 50.00 to 200.00 (U.S.)

Good luck.

Now that you and smeegle has given me the torque rates I can move on.

Thanks guys.

Hey, thanks for that.

I just wanted to be sure it wasn't reverse thread or something goofy like that. To hold it for removal I'm just going to drill a half inch hole on either side of the drum (since it's pooched anyway) and run a few feet of half inch round stock through it and brace it on the floor.

Once I get around to ordering a new drum I can move on too, although with all the snow blowing around my yard I'm in no real hurry.

Maybe I'll try freezing the thing before I put the impact to it, worked for the bearing in my SS's side cover.
