Default Which model? Base or the S?

Sponsored Links
So the 1199 has been released along with the specs of each model. Question is which model will you be getting and why??

I'm leaning towards the base. Reasons:
  • I actually like the look of the standard wheels as opposed to the forged ones on the S.
  • The carbon front guard, well I can buy that if I want aftermarket, however I like the all red look anyway.
  • LED lights; I don't ride at night, so means nothing to me. Plus I think the base will still have LED daytimes or "Audi" look effect at the top with normal globes as the "lights" (please confirm)
  • The Ohlins suspension; well yes it looks trick, although for an extra $5k, am I really going to use it, and afterall that is really what the $5k is paying for. The standard suspension still states it's fully adjustable and for the street and the odd track day I think it will be able to more than fulfill my requirements. Also the electronic gizmo ????, hmmm not sure about after sales cost/expenses/maintenance etc especially once 2yr warranty is up.
So there's my reasoning, anyone else care to share theirs..

Any yes, I can understand the people who will get the S just because they have to have the best and because it looks trick irrespective of practicality and do they really need it..if the S had the base wheels in a forged version though, I must say the decision would be a little harder
armada likes this.

Sounds like the extra 10% of speed the S model brings would not matter much to you.

Put the extra $$$ on the side for trackdays, steaks... a flight to Hong Kong...

The S... but don't forget that there's another model S with ABS and there's also the Tricolore, so the S isn't necessarily the top dog

S.

- ABS.....big factor in my next bike purchase, regardless of brand. There's simply tons of evidence on it's effectiveness now.

- Ohlins...even if it's not FGR/TTX level, it's still much better than the bog standard Showa stuff (Marzocchi's not bad though)

- Electronic suspension.... If you've tried it on the Muliti, you'll know it works well.

I would have to go with the s with abs. The ohlins suspension is going to ride so much better then the stock setup. I have an 1198 and after riding with the ohlins suspension I had to upgrade. Obviously I have not ridden the new bike so nobody will really know until it comes out. I feel every bike should come with ohlins suspension. Better feal, more traction, less brake dive make it sooooo much better.
