Default Powdercoating vs Anodizing

Sponsored Links
Hey guys, im getting ready to either powdercoat or anodize my new triple setup from Brian over at podium racing. Anyone have experience/prefer one over the other? I'd like the main body to be black and the inserts and hardware red.

Oh, and a little birdie gave me a new code "IHRTPR30". This particular code gets you rearsets, basic triple tree package, and your choice of ride height rod. - $779.95. I'm a little pissed that birdie didn't bring me the message when I bought all my stuff!

Please show pics of your powdercoated or anodized trees!

The finish of powdercoat and anodizing are completely different. Powedercoating will look like glossy paint while anodizing will have a coloured chrome like finish.

I prefer anodizing due to the shiny nature of it and more luster but it can fade in sunlight if it's not good high quality.

Is it possible to get a matte finish with anodizing? I don't really want a glossy finish on the main parts.

You can get a matte finish with powder coat.

You can get it anodized matte but I think powder coating is a stronger finish. Anodized triples get trashed from keys hitting it. My buddy is going through the process of having his wheels anodized he wants them titanium nitrate so they match the color his forks. Good luck with your choice.

Quite true and also a better way to get a matte finish than anodizing. A matte anodized finish can discolour easier due than the shiny finish.

Cool, sounds like I should powdercoat the triples matte black and anodize the inserts and bolts red. Should look pretty cool. Anyone know a good place in SoCal to do this?

I can't speak for shops that do coatings in So Cal but I like you're ideas.

Just an FYI with anodizers.....just getting a couple things done will cost almost as much as getting a shitload of things done. See if you can find anything else done that can add to the over all build.

I see too many people get different anodized pieces from different manufacturers and end up with miss matched colours as the manufacterers used different die lots to get the colours done.

We did up a Hyper at the shop I work for and it's owner wanted Texalium bodywork for it (silver carbon fiber) and accents in a medium blue. We got a quote to do the fork uppers, bar ends, pressure plate and a few other bits. We ended up getting the fastners for the engine and bodywork as well as the levers and rear sprocket carrier done and didn't cost us anything extra. because they were all done from the same place......all the pieces matched perfectly. The end result was quite unique.

Powdercoating is the route id choose without a doubt. Although id consider the thickness it will add to the clamps so they still fit on your forks. let the guys know that end up doing it that it should be thin on the inside. You dont want to have to shave down the nice finish in order to get them to fit properly. ive never been a fan of anodizing it just never seems to come out right and even if its close it ends up looking like crap after any decent length of time no matter how high the quality is.
