Default Remapping the 848

I have downloaded the 3 software programs to read, modify, compare fuel and ignition maps for our bikes and wanted to give some heads up for guys wanting to play around with your ECU.

I had purchased A set of slipons without the ECU and from what I have been reading I wasn't loosing much. What I mean is people are still complaining about how rough the bike runs under 4k unless you have the systems that will adjust the DP ECU real time which is a neat system but very expensive. What I am looking for was a way to flash my ECU with a better map and learn how to adjust these maps of needed. I will try to explain each of these programs so people can make a choice depending on what they want to do.

DucatiDiag is free and after you copy your serial number and type ecu from the program and post it over at the DD forum the guy who owns the forum will unlock the ECU for you and you will be able to reset your Thottle position sensor and dump your current map to a file and post it in the forum for other to use or compare. The EU files he has are different because they will change your screen over to celsius and meters.

The other program that is free is the ECM software which will allow you to upload your map you dumped to it and looks at how the map is set up. At this point I don't understand most of the numbers and what they represent except the rpm but you can load 2 files at once and compare yours to the ones that Ducati Performace sells you.

The writer is the program that will allow you to change your current map, it is built by the same guy as the DD so it has the same type interface. When you connect your bike with the eBay cable and hook a battery up to the Cable it will ask you for the file you wish to upload to the bike. After you select the file (.ddg) it will upload it and you can adjust a few things like speedo settings, fan, redline and the name that comes across your instrument panel. I have uploaded a SF map at this point and will take it for a ride shortly. The reason I am using this map is it was the only one I can find that uses DTC and DQS for a 848. If it doesn't work I can upload one of the EVO SBK maps but I assume it will not have my systems equipped.

I also wanted to add that motowheels has a good deal on flashing my ECU but I was on duty and stuck in the house all weekend so I took the blue pill instead of the red one.
Steveevo9 and dogg like this.

Very interisting, as up until now one could pretty much not get into the DP ecu, execpt for a reflash, or unless you have the factory tool and not many have that.
Where or how did you find out about this?

The Ducati diag forum is in French with the exception of the international sub-forum which a member did a write up with step by step directions on how to get each of the programs. You will have to sign up on the forum to read it.
http://ducatidiag.xooit.com/index.php
If you chose to write or re-flash your ECU you will need to PayPal the forum owner "JP" $126 for him to give you the file and key for that program. The rest is free.

I also noticed that when I reflashed my ECU that I lost unlock for the ducatidiag program or maybe I should have checked one of the boxes in the writer. The DD program requires a license to unlock which will allow you to reset the TPS. Mine is showing 2.6/2.7 and at full throttle (with the bike not running) I get 8. Something. I know the TPS is reset ona closed throttle but I'm wondering if the bike needs to be running.

Without resetting my TPS I loaded up a Street Fighter Corse with full Termi 70mm setup and it was not the way to go. I'm using a seat of the pants dyno here but I can tell you the the front wheel will only lift off the ground in first gear but the DtC and DQS work. I am going to load a slipon map next and try that out next.

The bike rode rough when going through that 2-4k rpm range so it didn't even fix that.

$126 for ducati diag license + all the cables needed? For around $200, you can get a VDST that works out of the box. Won't let you reflash the ECU etc. but does pretty much everything else. Did you consider the VDST?

Ducati diag is free, if you want to be able to reflash your ECU it takes a writer and that cost 100 euros, or $126 in today's exchange rate.

Another member over there has said that the bikes sold with DTC and DQS have similar ECUs but the SF cam timing is very different which is why my bike didn't run very well with that map.

Sounds like TuneBoy technology. ie, someone has cracked the Magnetti Marelli code and allows the fuel/air tables to be adjusted. Your reference of a 'key' is exactly what TuneBoy built to offer security.
A few years ago, some European hackers decided to crack TuneBoy and then offer it on the net for free - I think they called it TuneEdit.
It's not supported by TuneBoy (which has stepped up its encryption) and doesn't have any of the upgrades.

I have a proper TuneBoy unlocked ECU. It can be reloaded by my tuner (or me if I get the software and cable) and run any of the maps out there or, I can have a custom one done.

I would be really worried about trying to save a hundred bucks and completely shitting my engine!
Buyer beware!

I'm running a map that was built off the DP map that I paid less than $150 for it and if I can figure out the software I can adjust it for future mods.

Yeah, the SF and the evo are quite different. The SF has the 11degree overlap of the cams, Ducati says its better for the street. I test rode a SF848 and a Corse848 back to back. They arent even close...
