I paid around $120-130 I think. I sat and talked with the guy while he did my service and they did find some metal shavings in mine, but that doesn't mean you can't do it yourself and save some cash. Personally, I knew when I bought a Ducati that I wasn't going to save on maintenance.

Precisely why most Ducatistis get taken for suckers. Sorry, no offense. Just because someone owns a premium brand, doesn't mean it's black magic and needs to be taken in to be kissed by unicorns.

I am not saying dealer service doesn't have its place, but for something as simple as a 600 mile service (which by definition is a cash grab idea to pad dealer margins), only the real suckers will fork out serious cash.

I am not saying everyone needs to be a grease monkey, but if you aren't the least bit mechanically inclined to do an oil change, you are better off buying a Honda. Again, no offense.

None taken. I guess what I was saying is that I bought my Duc because I love the bike, not because I was trying to save $$ or thought that the maintenance would be cheap. If you are looking for easy/cheap maintenance, I agree that Honda may be a better choice for you.

My service wasn't done at a dealer, but at a shop in my area that I like and trust. Part of the reason I took it in was that I wanted to make sure there was nothing else going on with the bike that a self-performed oil change wouldn't catch (because I'm not much of a grease monkey).

Yeah don't under estimate keeping your warranty intact. It may be a cash grab but if it isn't done you just gave Ducati the out that they need NOT to replace a motor or other major mechanical part under warranty.
I see we have some Gamblers here.
You are welcome to roll the dice.

If Ducati were to take a stand that they won't honor warranty because customers didn't pull their pants down for them, there are pretty easy legal options to get them to play nice. It is very hard if not impossible for them to legally prove that self-performed maintenance was the cause for an unrelated engine failure. Tell the dealer your lawyer will call them and see what their response is.

The first service is important to ME to have done at the dealer. Its now part of my record. The bike was VERY expensive and the 2 year warranty is valuable to me. Ive quite competent enough to change my oil and adjust my chain, but the 600 mile service I will leave to the dealer. Its a couple hundred bucks and now if anything goes wrong mechanically I wont have to listen to any bullshit about if getting fixed. I will be changing my own oil after this.

To me, its cheap insurance to protect myself.

way to much misinformation here.

if YOU ALL would have followed other simular thjreads you would know

all that is required by ducati for keeping your factory warranty up to date is to have all reciepts for oil and filter, and a signed dated checklist of work you preformed.

I paid $250 for my first service. I didn't do it myself mainly because I had some quick shift problems that resulted in some lovely noises in the case. If there were peices of my gearbox I wanted them to see it at the dealer when they were handling the warranty concerns on the same visit. Beyond that- I'm doing all my own work. The dealership I work at doesn't even charge that much for an A service on a benz that takes 8.5 qts of synthetic oil and requires a more extensive inspection. I know $250 is a rip off, but if I'm going to end up shoving this bike back up Ducati's ass for warranty problems, I'll pay for the first service.
as of right now they've had the bike for over two weeks on the third visit for the same quickshift problems. I'm just counting the days until DNA is going to be replacing my bike for me.

This is exactly why my 1st service is being done at dealer. Today actually.
