Default Help guys: Flat spot in frame...is this normal?

Well guys I recently purchased a 2011 848 Evo dark stealth with 1100 miles on it and a termi full exhaust. A week after owning it i get rearended at a stop light. I have been riding for 9 years and have owned several sportsbikes. I have never been rearended and get rearended on my new ducati I got hit by a truck that was going maybe 5 mph. I didnt get knocked over or anything. It felt like i had popped the clutch. I didnt see any damage to my duc since the truck hit my rear tire. No damage to the exhaust or the tail light. I rode it home after the accident no problem. But tonight i was installing the rear passengers pegs and started looking at the frame. And i found a flat spot on the tube is in front of the left passenger peg. I just wanted to check with you guys to see if this is normal from factory. Like i said i got bumped by a truck going about 5 mph. I have the truck owners insurance information and also a witness gave me her phone number. I really dont want to contact the guys insurance company unless this flat spot is not normal because there was no visible damage to my bike. Sorry for the long post but this really pisses me off

Damn, good eye...I never noticed that flat spot. But yes, it seems to be from the factory and only on the left side. Just above the 2nd frame hole, and about 1" in length. LOL, and why are these stickers all falling off and looking like crap. Wish I could just pull them all off (thread coming!)

IMO, I'd still call for a claim just to have it all checked out at the shop and have their insurance cover the fees. I'm biased as I'm not a fan of paying for insurance all these years and never making a claim to get anything out of it back, and the insurance company isn't losing money and shouldn't feel guilty. That's what it's for, right? A mild smack to the rear can't be good dude. Best case scenario is that you get it all checked out and it's all tip-top shape, worst being they find something damaged and someone else covers it. Win-Win.

don't bother with the sticker thread- already been done.
use a hair dryer or heat gun on low, then use 3m adhesive remover to clean the frame.

Don't bother with the hair dryer. They should peel off fine of left in the sun with the temps near 100. I too would still have the bike checked out. I would think it being a single sided swing arm that it wouldn't be to hard to get knocked out of an alignment.

I'd recommend doing the windscreen and hids at the same time. Depending on your hid kit up under the black plastic speedometer is a good place for the ballasts and firing boxes. It's a lot easier to replace the windscreen with the upper removed. The very bottom bolts can suck to get at.

So funny that in the US they have to come packed with warning stickers..?? Here in Europe they come clean, only stickers on the bike are the ones saying 'DUCATI' and '848'... You guys sue to much!

The flat section is there to allow the flywheel cover to be removed with the engine still in the frame. All models I have seen so far have it.

There not all warning stickers. Some have the bike specs on them. Curb weight, how tight to have the chain one has the vin guess the stamp in the frame is not enough they are All useless and ugly.
