Default Arctic White EVO staining around gas cap

Hey folks, this is my 1st post & I tried searching thru the forum & didnt see an issue similar to mine so I'm asking. My 2012 white EVO has started staining around the gas cap & I dont fill to much gas, spill any out the spout with the pump or do anything out the normal that should cause this. Its getting worse & worse as time goes by.

I park in the sun while at work/9 hours a day and yesterday before I left, I noticed moisture with a gasoline smell around the cap & wiped it off before riding. It seems like gas is leaking out the gas cap from a assembly defect & causing this stain

I havent been to the dealer yet, but plan to this month. I dont even have 3k miles on her yet.

Has anyone seen this before and/or know the cause? Can this be cleaned/removed?

Thanks

Don't bother cleaning it. Take it in and have the dealership look at it, it looks like a bad seal. If it stained your tank it should be covered under the warranty.

+1 on warranty
even if some fuel spilled durring fueling, or your bike spent some time in the rain it should not stain like this. lits likely that the hardware or the fuel cap is corroding where it meets the tank and the fuel is bringing that up on the paint.

might not hurt to see if bug and tarnish remover work.

just dont work it to hard, dont scrub.

and wash it with soap and water quickly afterwards

keep bug and tar off red rims, my rag turned red. the eggshell clear didnt seem to be effected though [your matte finish]

Definitely don't try to clean it until you have the ok from the dealership that you are getting a replacement!! Let them see how bad it is, take pics, order a new one, then clean it.

By cleaning it, the dealer may say "there is nothing wrong with it"; and there clearly is.

Take it to the dealer and get a fresh tank/paint job.

You could potentially mess it up more by trying to take it off. Possibly scratch/dull your paint, and then the dealer may give you hassle. If you show this to any dealer, they will give you a new tank.

After they order your new one, THEN you can try to scrub it off with isopropyl alcohol or worst case brake and parts cleaner (sprayed on a rag)

I have the same problem with my Arctic White '12 848. Just started staining. Were you able to take care of the problem?
