Got around to installing my case guard. Noticed how this is bent over on the nut?

Yes so the nut does get loose by turning lots of torque through the gear

My interpretation of "that sad" was your lack of knowledge, so I taught a little explanation would be better for you...

Wow we're you born with all the worlds knowledge? Yes it was obvious to be that it may be bent to hold the nut. Bendning metal fatigues it as you should know (right)?
Maybe I don't know enough about the quality of Ducati that they would just bend the flange over. If you were right about the sad assumption you both should get a room

The first reply of yes was enough I certainly didn't ask why now did I?

Down load a work shop manual you can find them free everywhere. I don't remember where I got mine or I'd post a link. This is common on a few bikes triumph does the same thing.

Its a less expensive option than replacing a staked nut every time you do a repair and requires less machining on the part the nut is threaded on.

He was just trying to help...

And for your info, bending a metal does NOT fatigue it. Bending a metal cold-works the metal which is a strength hardening process...basically it makes it stronger but more brittle hence when you bend it back and forth several times it breaks. Metallurgy 101...now you learned something new for the day
