I've done my search and found plenty of info on this but, I have a question and didn't want to bump old treads...
My headlights are cloudy (one side is worse than the other) and am looking for ways to clean the inside of the headlight with out removing them off the bike. I'd like to stick something in there (a pencil maybe?) with a piece of rag wrapped on the end but not sure what I have to remove to gain access. -the right side headlight seems straight forward. Romove the rubber cover, remove the bulb. -the left side is blocked by the "bubble" housing that the bulb sits in. Can someone let me know what I need to romove (hopefully without removing the entire headlight assembly off the bike)? Thanks |

Typically the problem isn't on the inside but rather the outside of the assembly. They are really no different from a car with cloudy headlights. They make a compound that will clear it up but it takes some elbow grease or a buffing machine. You'll need to take the nose off the bike though so as not to damage the plastics.

Mine is definetly on the inside. So, are we saying that the only way to clear this up is take it off the bike?
I've read that one of the ways to clear it up is to pour rubbing alcohol in it, shake, drain, let it dry...I assume i'll need to pour the alcohol through the holes where the small running lights go? My original question was to see if there are any ways to clean the inside of the lenses without taking the light assembly off the bike. I guess I'll need to if the only way to do it is the "pour alcohol in" method... No other way to stick something in there and wipe it off? I'm really hoping to not have to take the front fairing off as it will require more work due to mods I have made to the fairing... |

When I did mine some years ago all I remember was that there was now way to do it other than take it apart. You need to get that low beam prism out to gain access to the low beam side I thought.
