Default clutch lever issues M/C or slave internal leak???

Sponsored Links
Hi all

I have noticed after bleeding my clutch, it works awesome i have no problems with the weight of the pull or effort required to operate.

What I have noticed is several weeks later
the pull gets shorter and the take up ( friction point ) is reduced
Also when stopped with the clutch pulled in at lights for any sort of time it seems to "grab" and also almost impossible to get teh bike into N with the engine running.

a clutch bleed fixes these issues but i should not need to bleed the clutch every 6-8 weeks

Only ever used motul rbf 600 brake fluid in it.

any ideas? all i can think of is the M/C may be leaking internally ???

Cheers

Hi Frank,
I had a similar problem with my 749. After reading many threads online, as well as dismantling my master cylinder, I came to this conclusion:
The 749/999 m/c design reservoir has a nipple to feed into the cylinder, and that nipple fits not very snugly into a rubber seal in the cylinder. This is different from a master with a remote reservoir which has a tube connecting to the cylinder. If the plastic reservoir deforms even slightly, the nipple can shift to one side of it's seal, creating a tiny gap that actually collects air when you work the lever.
Mine did this and only ever lost one drop of fluid.
For me, the answer was to replace the whole business with an m/c from an848/1098. The cylinder itself is just the same, and the reservoir has lots of clearance under the fairing.
Hope this helps.
John

I am having this problem as well. Is the 848/1098 m/c a direct replacement for the 749/999 m/c?

Other options may be the crush washers on the line. If you've loosened the lines at any time, you may want to replace them. The manual calls for the washers to get replaced anytime they are loosened.

Another issue may be the line itself. I was seeing new 848's out of the crate with clutch issues you are describing. We found it was the clutch line.

^^ My guess as well. Easy to introduce air right there. Mine had a small weep. YoYo sells the Brembo rubbers for the masters. Also, have you bled the master?
