To the opening thread title question...."out of the box"...?...it has always been Ducati. Avoiding technical sides of the conversation Ducati has always been the true out of the box race ready superbike. One of there trade marks of the bike world.

nope not a hardly, Im happy to say, a nicely massaged Rotax engine, and some very nice high end suspension bits from the swedes. Austria is far far away from milwookie!

Out of the box: S1000RR, Aprilia and 1198 close, then R1 & CBR1000RR. I love how the R1 and CBR are jack-of-trades, but the prior are more track focused and more true superbikes right off the floor IMO. Now, kit-up an R1 with a little privateer-level cash and you have an easy front runner in the liter classes.

I agree with a prior statement that the Kaw10 and KTM8 handle like a bag of ass. They're so close to the upper tier yet refuse to make those moves to get it there. <-that's just always confused me. If KTM's idea is a good chassis w/ a ripping engine, WP suspension has to go away or it's all in vain.

EBR has something here and damn the price tag. Is it the out-of-the-box SB to beat? I dunno...I'll probably get to ride one right after I get to toss a Desmosedici around; right after pigs fly out of my bung hole. If Danny Eslick gets on one here in the states, we may see just how well it works.

This is basically my same opinion of the new Duc-Pan. I suspect that it bumps right to the top and is a no-holds-barred Superbike. With the 1198 not being out of the chase by any means; this release has me thinking they're going for the throat. Get good riders on it, spread it around different continents, and we'll just see if our assumptions hold up as expected. This is a long way of saying "It's right up top of best superbikes, out of the box".

I'm a Honda fan and kinda long time Ducati/Aprilia owner. I don't know a sporty Honda I haven't tossed around since 1991; RC30 and 45's included in the collection. Duc 916, 996 (traded in after the valve flaking ordeal for...) 998SE, and now an 848EVO. Aprilia is only two: the 1995 RS50 (last legal 2-stroke West of the Rockies) and an '07 RSV. Just saying; I'm not really biased, but surely not the best rider out there in order to be a judge by far.

In 2012 I think its the Bimmer and Ape...seen how much shit it comes with. Ducati made that happen, the others were forced to produce some stuff to keep up.

The EBR was the bike Eric Buell wanted to build over the 1125R but HD told him no and demanded the 1125R. They were afraid to go up against the foreign bikes head on.
