Question Buying a 2011 796 - No Code Key Card - please help

Found a really nice 2011 locally but the seller only has one black key and no code key card. I have read the numerous threads on the immobilizer issue, programming a key vs cloning a key and ended up getting more confused.

So, here are are questions:

1) Should I walk away from this bike since it doesn't come with the key card?

2) How important is the keycard? Is it only needed incase I lose both black keys or are there other scenarios where it may be needed (new exhaust, new tune, remap)?

3) I am planning on getting 2 cloned keys to the black key and putting them in a safe place. Is this good enough insurance that I never need the codes?

4) I understand cloning but what is "programming" for in a key?

To summarize, is not having the key code card a deal breaker? The seller is willing to work in the price to account for no key code card.

Thanks.

Buy it. Take it to dealer, have another key made before you lose the one you got.

By the way, theres no more 'red' key. Those are gone.

I agree, copy that black key, put it in your dresser top drawer and forget it.

Been there done that.

When you loose your key or get a faulty immobilizer. Exhaust, tune or remap is ecu related. The immobilizer and key are dashboard related.

The code can be 'extracted' from your dashboard. There are companies specialized in that including coying and coding your key.

How to code a new key is in your owners manual, still need to code though to program a new key.
