I've been googling off and on for a few weeks now on this one. A coworker was telling of going for a drive with a buddy who had an application on his Iphone that brought up a map and showed police cruiser locations on it in real time. He claimed that they followed a cruiser from a distance and the icon on the Iphone screen matched the moves of the cop.
I've found an app that people can call in speed traps and it displays them with updates and I found a police radio scanner app, but not this one. Any thoughts? |

I ate a few boogers this morning ![]() But seriously, I've worked in cellular for some years, so i got some decent knowledge on them. There are alot of "hacks" particularly for smartphone with some type of "GPS" capability. But, I really tend to stray from those apps, too damn risky. That tracking can easily work both ways.

Better off re-visiting the co-worker and his buddy Rap. The makings of an urban legend maybe.
Shit..... we aren't even allowed to have radar detectors here. Always thought something like that would be great to have......... until the whallopers found me with it. Would be akin to having a pound of crack in your possession.

Most likely crap, but I do know that the police around here have some kind of transponder to keep track of their where abouts at all times, in case of an officer down.
Even my company vehicles have them, when in Turkey they were able to keep track of me with a gps location log being sent via the cell towers to the company web site and infractions were forwarded to my boss. I'd hear the next day that I was located at the beach ten km out side of my work area or that I'd gone 105 km/hour when the limit was 90. Knowing that in my companies case that these logs were sent by cell and internet it didn't seem to far fetched to me that someone could have somehow got one of the signals and found a way to forward that info to a cell phone. Since the info would be coming as just an information packet over a cell signal it wouldn't be like a radar detector that's easily detected. I'll pass on the bridge but if there's any chance this is real I'd like it for insurance to keep my demerits down. |
