For those who are also cycling fans - who is your pick for the Tour this July? A Cadel repeat? Will Frank step up since he doesn't have to play the domestique role for his brother? Or will we see a newcomer to the yellow jersey? Maybe a Pierre Rolland will give Voeckler someone to pass the torch to for France?
Best sprinters? Best climbers? Best team support? One day specialists? All the team changes since last year have pretty much left this tour open to speculation.

Well, one schleck bro is out due to injury, canchelara is going to bail halfway through for the olympics, Hushovd and cavendish may bail as well leaving the sprints to cavendish's old lead out man. Cadel will either hit the podium or crack in the alps. contador- not. horner is way past his prime for a stage race of this magnitude and is leipheiner even racing anymore? Voight will likely have some grueling domestique days and veokler may do somehting impresive for a stage or two. EVeryone else has retired, dwindled into insignificance or been popped for doping. Might be a rather boring ride this month.

Eric - I know you're a cyclist, so probably more interested than most. Figured there might be more two wheel cycling enthusiasts here.
Contador is a doper, so he's not there. Horner is ancient, but a cool guy. Leipheimer is leading the Omega-Pharma-Quickstep team. Jens will be awesome to watch - probable he and Hincapie's last tour. Voekler will probably ride for Pierre Rolland this year (although Voekler is listed first on Europcar). There are a lot of good young riders to watch, some of them American's - Van Garderen for one. Both Hesjedal (CAN) and Wiggins (GB) will be looking for GC contention. Nibali likes to take off and make the peloton chase him down and he's got his eyes on the yellow jersey, also. I think this is actually the most open and interesting tour in years - the old names were always the story, but the real heroes are the guys carrying 170 BPM up the Alpe to pull someone. Sure, the usual flat, sprint stages that are like watching grass grow until the last KM. |

I'll be watching. Im not into cycling so much as just the spectacle of the tour. Absolutely brilliant telly sport. Of course you cant help but get caught up in the competition though. I'll be watching Cadel and also the OricaGreenedge guys, but I cant see them inflicting too much damage.
If he can stay in one piece, Cadel probably wont be too far off the pointy end again. Your right though, a lot of those guys are getting pretty long in the tooth now. I guess its the sort of job you wouldnt be in a hurry to surrender. Should be good viewing. |
