2014 Ducati Monster!

With the Ducati 1199 Superleggera already shown ahead of the 2013 EICMA show, the big news from Milan for Ducati is the long-rumored 2014 Ducati Monster 1200.
Saying goodbye to the Monster’s air-cooled v-twin, the Monster 1200 takes a page from history and the Ducati S4/S4R Ducait’s water-cooled Testastretta 11 motor, as seen in the Ducati Multistrada 1200 and Ducati Diavel.
Surely to ruffle a few feathers with the hardcore Ducatisti, the water-cooled engine isn’t the only big innovation for the Ducati Monster 1200, as the motorcycle is the continuation of Ducati’s chassis philosophy, as seen on the Ducati 1199 Panigale. As such, both the steel trellis main frame, and steel subframe, attach directly to the Testastretta 11 engine’s cylinder heads.
Touring fans will be happy to hear that the new Ducati Monster 1200 comes with a 17.5 liter fuel tank, the biggest ever for the Monster line. Though what we think will really get your fancy is that power for the base model is 135hp at 8,750 rpm, while torque is 117 lbs•ft at 7,250 rpm.
Although the exhaust routing can be a bit distracting, the overall aesthetic of the 2014 Ducati Monster 1200 is both true to the original machine, and also a fresh approach for this next iteration.
Other details of note are the Monster 1200’s banana seat, which is adjustable in height, and the Monster 1200’s LCD display, which is similar to the unit on the Panigale. Available March 2014, new Monster 1200 owners can expect to plunk down $13,495 at their local Ducati dealership.

I was a little concerned that it would disappoint by shoehorning a new hyper motor into a standard monster chassis, but it looks to be a well planned out bike, fixing much of the issues with the late model monster chassis, from the rear suspension, the weak headlight, the minimal display, and the lack of power over similarly priced bikes. As long as the tank doesn't swell and piss itself at the vent tubes, this should be a big improvement.

edit--
just got the link after I posted- steel tank!

Nice bike.

Looks like Ducati went back to a steel tank!

I am seriously considering upgrading from the 796 to the 1200 now. I miss the HPs of the 1098 but like the ergos of the monster. This might be just what I need. Sucks to put so much time and money into the 796 and a year later start over though...

Wooowwweeee! That thing is a torque monster-no pun intended. Instead of "monster 1200" PLEASE Ducati, call it an s4r!

It has not grown on me yet. Definitely not something that makes me want to sell my SF for, especially with those hp and torque numbers. The SF 1098 outperforms it.

This is the third post within 2 weeks that you made to justify your SF purchase. Ducati does not make bikes to compete with their own products but yet you always bring up this SF 1098. It failed and was a flop so accept it. This is the last year for the SF because the new monster fills that void. The SF 1098 will outperfom it by a couple hp/torque. However, I will enjoy my ohlins, carbon fiber, wheels, lcd screen, riding modes, and WAY better ergos for the same price you paid for your SF 1098.
