i'm planning to buy a used supermoto next month (rode one on a small track and loved it). I think i could ride it on small tracks and keep the 848 for bigger ones. i was looking at a DRZ 400sm, and a friend of mine might be willing to sell me his Husq 510SMR. the thing is i know the Husq is more powerful and more a race bike, and i also know that the DRZ would be really reliable and cheaper maintenance..etc.. I'm still waiting to know if he'll sell it to me, but i was thinking i could use some opinions... (btw, the husq would need some work done, speedo doesn't work..etc..)

i didn't think i would have no opinions at all lol
well... i bought it yesterday morning for 3300$, the guy was an engineer for the BMW F1 team before and now engineer for Nascar and did all the engine mods at his work, he had an amazing garage with multiple bikes and seemed legit. so i test rode it and loved it. he geared it for commuting so 1st and 2nd gears feel useless, i'll prob change that. drove it back (60miles of 405) pushed it 95mph i really felt it was the max the bike could give.... so i took it to the canyons! after a full day of canyons riding i can easy tell, it MIGHT be my 2nd bike but it's going to be a long relationship! here is a photo i took yesterday:

well, i thought i would prob trash the bike as my first supermoto and didn't want to treat like that an italian queen :P
a hyper weight approx 390lbs. the drz feels like a bicycle with its 100lbs less! plus it cost me 100$ a year to insure and all the parts are between 5$ and 100$...hard to beat! when i'll outgrow this bike, i'll prob go for the aprilia sxv 550, sexy as fck! this small bike is a real blast to ride though!

I'm with you bud. Was a good idea to go the cheaper and smaller route on a first moto...chances are good you'll thrash it around abit,( I would), and it's better to have a cheaper/ lighter machine for that. If you ever decide to go big on the Moto's just remember, you can shed alot of weight from these things if you are wiling to put out on carbon fiber, fuel tank/all tanks and reservoirs, and rims....and walking away from the buffet bar before the 4th course.

I think it depends on the type of riding you do. If you plan to just stay on the road then the hyper is great! If you plan to take it off road Ithink the zuk is the way to go, or maybe look at the bmw 650 or ktm and for the lesser extent maybe the 450 and 550 apes.
