Default Trackbike R6 or RSV

For a while now I have been thinking of getting a bike dedicated for track use. I tried my street 1198s on track but really didn't like how it felt and I wasn't comfortable on it. My times were higher than on my ex ZX6 trackbike that I totaled, so I am keeping the Duc as a street bike. but all that is another story.

Now the opportunity came up to get another bike.
My friend wants to sell his almost brand new 2011 Yamaha R6 for $9k. I am thinking that would be an excellent track tool. But then today passed by the Aprilia dealer and they have a demo 2011 RSV4 R going for $13.5. The dealer also said they will throw in a free Ohlins shock with the bike when they knew my intentions with it. The bike has been dropped though on one side and the engine case, fairing, and exhaust have scratches.

Now I am torn between the 2. Can't decide if the 4k is worth it for the Aprilia. Not sure if I need 1000cc bike on track, (but all my friends use liter bikes on trackdays and I would be placed in a different group with the 600). I tested one back in 2010 on track and I loved how it felt. I also like the idea of Traction control, and love the sound of the V4. The R6 is light, maybe easier to work with , and costs less to maintain.

can't decide, help needed

Two mates i ride with bought new RSVR's three months ago - both have had safety recalls related to the fly by wire system - been off the road for over a month now waiting on parts from Italy with no indication as to when the parts will be delivered - IMO stay clear of the Ape go with the rice rocket - what thos Japs dont know aint worth knowin. Aprilla have a terrible terrible track record on customer support going back years.

That's same different as your 1198 and the zx6. If you have hard time ride 1198 you will struggle on the aprilia too.get the R6,or learn ride the 1198.

thanks for input guys
rusty I have to disagree with there. You are insinuating that struggling on the 1198 automatically means struggling on the Aprilia. To me you're saying that the 2 bikes are very much like each other, but having been on both, I can tell you that you could not be further from the truth.
The ZX6 and the R6 yes very similar both weight about the same, both same engine I4, similar chassis design. But not the 1198 and the Aprilia.

I'd go with the ricer. Many times cheaper to fix when you flop it as there is an endless supply of cheap used parts.

Changed my mind. No longer interested in a 600.
I'm now in the market for CBR1000 08+

not sure why the sudden change of mind, but one thing I'll say is $9k is not worth it for an R6. They were giving those away for like 8400-8600 brand NEW last year at my local dealer. $13,500 is not bad for an RSV4 though. I would definitely pick that over the CBR assuming similar prices. Granted I did see a 2 year old (but with 0 miles) CBR1000 go for $10,500 at the local dealer last year. Now that's a smokin deal

I tried the RSV awesome bike....but for reliability and ease of parts/mods the R6 is the way to go IMO.

What's up.I gotta 08 cbr1000.I am tryin to get to the point of being "a good track day guy"I have to say that my cbr does a good job at track compared to what I can do on my 1098s.Parts for the thing are so dam cheap on cbr forum and ebay.I had a descent low side last year and got 2000$ of parts for about 300$ Can't beat it!! really do wanna learn to get better on duc though, just a more badass machine.Might not help being a little nervous that if it goes down,me broke.hope helps.
