Default And then there were 3....

seats left on the Yamaha/Honda factory teams.

Lorenzo Contract Extension

I guess this is probably the least surprising of any possible moves, but it does take one question out of the equation.

I would also guess Yamaha wanted him on lockdown fast given Spies performance so far this year. Without Lorenzo, if Spies doesn't come around (still plenty of time), Lorenzo's value goes up tremendously if the season wears on and Spies struggles.

All the Rossi arguments about the Ducati aside, who is going to challenge him on the Yamaha next year, Pedrosa on the Honda??? Pedrosa's missing something - call it the x factor. No one else is proven on a factory ride. Plenty of good satellite riders coming up.

I have a strong feeling, and a sneaky suspicion... that if Marquez wins the MOTO2 title this season.. he will be on that bike next season.

Just need to "flex" the current rules a little bit... stay tuned..

If not Marc... than i am thinking Cal... he rides like Simo, and I really wanted to see Simo on the 1000cc Honda.
could happen..

Unless someone can tell me the specific reason for this rule (safety?), I think it's idiotic in the first place, BUT changing the rules based on the situation is one of the biggest issues with MotoGP. If they do bend the rules for 2013 in a way that allows Honda to "promote" Marquez to the factory Repsol from Moto2 what does that say to every other satellite rider or MotoGP hopeful?

They need consistency with the devlopment and application of rules in all areas, which will encourage more factories and sponsors to enter the mix, divide up the fixed costs, make the series more competitive and grow the sport.

With some forethought, the transition to 1000CC would have been a great opportunity to lure back other manufacturers, instead of creating a subclass of back markers. This, however, would have required the FIM and Dorna to think ahead more than just one season.

Wow, that was a rant! /soapbox...

Pedrosa's nickname should be milk toast....

So, that being the case, why do they institute these rules? To keep guys in Moto2 longer? The factory bikes are always going to be the dream rides. The way the whole class is set up just leads to what we have today. Three distinct levels of performance (and Ducati - can't quite figure that out).

Also, how much does nationality play into it? Is it just "good marketing" to have Spies, an American, on the Yamaha factory bike?

Every sport has it's Yankees, or Lakers, etc but they don't lower the basket for the Lakers... Okay right field at the new Yankee stadium is a JOKE. It just seems so lopsided in GP racing.

i think it was from keeping rookies from wining the title. It would make sense.. you should have to earn that factory ride. imo

Can't you earn it in Moto2? Earning a factory ride tells me that only four bikes go into the MotoGP season with a chance at the championship. Testament to the inequality in the bikes.
