Make them all the same weight, forget power restrictions and limit electronics. Put it back into the hands of the riders.

Especially if they can change the rules willy nilly as they have done this year. Seems as though they just want to copy the MotoGP rule makers & breakers.
That's what they did in the AMA, and they are still trying to recover from that fiasco..

With the new 1199 coming out and loaded anticipation, I don't see any huge step up in a platform that is set up to fail. IOW, it's a great bike however if restricted, the motor "may" be counter productive, as it is designed for high RPM power similar to the 4's. The problem is that the bike will not be able to produce(in theory) the type of power up top with it's restrictions. With a lack of low end power, it becomes an issue in what I see. Not to mention, the weight penalty will take away the ability to accelerate as fast as the 4's too. The argument of the extra capacity is mute nowadays as the current crop of electronics has really leveled the playing field, not to mention acceleration and top speed has as much to do with gearing and aerodynamics; and the Duc's are considerably down on power partly due to the restrictors.

Add it all up and I see a recipe for nothing here. It may as well be an 1198 next year unless the FIM makes some reasonable changes.

Maybe they maintain the weight penalty, but remove the restrictors OR remove the weight penalty and keep the restrictors? At least the weight being even will aid in braking, and turns/transitions.

Ducati just needs to stop fucking around and build a 999cc L4. The return of the 999R, only sexy this time
