Default Shift-Tech carbon key cover...

First off, let me say that I love the quality of all my Shift-Tech carbon fiber pieces. They are by far the best I've seen. That said...

The Shift-Tech carbon key cover scratched my tank, down low under the damper. Both sides. I guess when installed it barely touched the tank, and the vibration of riding wore nice little grooves into the paint. Perhaps I shouldn't be bothered by it but the newness of the bike hasn't worn off for me yet. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I have maybe sanded down the edges or otherwise shaped the piece before installing? I have the Shift-Tech tank guard on the way and now I'm a little scared to install if for fear of further scratches.

Any advice from my fellow tenninetyeighters?

Check around the other threads, that's not an uncommon problem. I have Dremeled mine a few times; I usually just Dremel away the areas on the guard that have accumulated red paint...

You can always opt for a tank guard as well...

www.carbonworld.de

It installs (with 3M tape) to the front side of the gas tank and helps keep it free from chips, nicks and scratches.

Looks pretty slick, and the weave / quality is on par to the items that Shift sells...

If by yoke you mean triple clamp, I believe it's a SpeedyMoto Gull wing triple clamp. It lets you raise the clip-on's about 1/2". It is a work of art and I keep thinking of picking one up myself.

Yes the triple tree is from SpeedyMoto and it's probably one of the most talked about mods I have done. Anyone who owns a 1098 and lays eyes on it first hand, is literally on the phone ordering one for their bike within minutes. That's how sweet it looks...

Besides the fact that it looks amazing, it also allows you to; A - Raise your OEM clip-ons 20mm for improved ergonomics, B - Allows for a 15 degree range of bar sweep from the OEM clip-ons, and C - Strengthens the front end by spreading the top clamping points of the forks further away from the lower clamps, reducing fork flex.

Installation takes a matter of minutes with everyday hand tools. Price wise, it'll set ya back around $350, but it's worth every penny!

The shifttech key protector marred up my paint too. So that's exactly what I did - bought from carbonworld to cover up the damage plus protect from future shifttech damage.

Seems crazy having to buy a protector for a protector.
My advice is to get your money back and buy the carbonworld piece.
