I've said for the last few years that I'll test ride every 600 under the sun and come to the appropriate decision up until I give a wry smirk and go who am I kidding I know my bias for the 848 is just going to make me select that anyways. I've wanted this bike since it came out and from the specs, pictures, reviews and opinions I've read and been given it just keeps narrowing it down to this bike. I'll be the first to admit I'm throwing caution into the wind and I'm not thinking this through as thorough as I ought but it's the only bike that gets me interested, I don't really want a Japanese 600 as I've got my CBR and I've ridden my mates 675 which was fantastic but if I want to ride it I can jump on his, the 848 is the only bike I want out of the range I'm looking at, unless I step up to a RSV4, which I don't as I don't want to touch the 1L bikes until I've proven myself on the 600cc's, they are more fun on the street/track anyways if ridden properly! Appreciate the advice but you can never have too much but you can never not have enough of it, and it has been something I've mulled over already. After saying all that though it's not going to stop me from test riding bikes on my full licence either!

fair enough. if you know what you want then go for it. maybe consider a 1199 though? 848 EVO at $22K is only $6K shy of a brand new 1199 w ABS...
but I'm sure you will be super happy with the 848 EVO, they are a sexy bike and plenty fast. the only reason I say test before you buy is things change. 2 bikes ago I was set on a new Jap 600 or possibly a 675. top of my list was a ZX6R (636) or 08 CBR600 or an 06 R6. I was looking at these bikes (and even rode a new ZX10R out of interest) and then saw a 916 Senna at a dealer in sydney. it struck me as I'd never seen a GREY ducati before (love grey cars and bikes). I loved the look but having been a big jap inline 4 fan I thought I'd hate this stupid low revving twin as I love my screaming high revving 4s. so I thought, well I'll just test ride it, no doubt I'll hate it and then I can put it out of my mind completely..... big mistake. I LOVED it. sure it's completely different to what I love about the jap 4's but it has other qualities too. it was after that that I bought my first 996 and loved it to death. I know I know, cool story. but sometimes a bike just grabs you. sounds like that's you with the 848... |

As I said I'd much rather ply my trade on the 600ish class before I jump to the 1000's. I have a CBR600RR track bike so I know I do enjoy the Japanese scream which is also why I guess I want something a little different, and the Ducati L Twin sounds exactly right up my alley especially with the power delivery!
To be honest that extra 6k is probably just out of my budget, once insurance and mods come into it. Not to mention I just love the look of the 848, maybe the Panigale will be my weapon of choice when I'm due to upgrade to a 1L bike who knows. Hard to look past the BMWS100RR though... :P Yeah I'll 100% be test riding for sure, but only to keep up with what's on the market I know I'll be more than happy with my little white beast sitting in the garage! |

have to agree the S1000RR is bloody hard package to top for the money.
yeah fair enough, it's good to set a budget and $6K extra is a fair bit of dough. most people's whole bike cost $6K... look forward to seeing pics of your new 848 EVO.
