SF 848 in Black or Red?

So I'm close to purchasing a 2014-2015 Streetfighter 848. I'm considering used 2014s/2015s as well as leftover new 2015s. (I have an '08 848 to sell or trade, another story).

Most of the SF 848s I'm seeing are Red. But there are some used '14s in Matte Black. My 848 is Pearl White and I'm going to miss that color. So I was thinking Red, but would consider this Matte Black now.

Thoughts? Is the Matte Black rare in some way? Thoughts?

Thanks,

Matt Ringlien

There is actually a yellow SF 848 that they only made the first year. That color is really cool looking in person.

IMO, matte black is cool but in person I've always felt they looked unfinished (like black primered bodywork for example). But for that reason they are pretty stealthy. I rock a black pearl red framed SF-S

I guess I'm biassed, but it had to be black for me. I don't like red as a color in general and the yellow on the SF isn't Ducati's usual yellow. It's a softer color, not my thing. Luckily the perfect black example came along. Otherwise I would have had a repainted red one, probably in gun metal gery or something.

But black SF 848's aren't super rare, rough guess... I think for every 2 red ones sold, there was one black one sold.

Thx for the feedback. The black is super sinister. Just not sure if it's too trendy of a color/finish?

I know it! I've seen your bike. I am interested. Two challenges for me on your bike: 1. I need to sell my white 848 first (I just posted it yesterday). 2. You live in Tampa and I live in Columbus, Oh.

This time I may try to trade in on a new or possible used '14 SF848 just due to convenience.

But I've always purchased from private party. So we'll see how things go. But yes your bike looks very good and I am very interested.

Yeah it appears that all Ducatis should be red, but the Red 848 SF just doesn't look as cool to me as the Black.

Another question for you guys who own a Stealth Black 848. Because it appears to be a Matte finish, how does it clean up/wear as opposed to a shiny clear-coated finish? Is it as durable? Does it show like smudges more easily? I have not seen one in person.

Thanks!

Matt

The black is pretty easy to keep clean, just as gloss paint. You just have to use the right shampoo's etc. Don't use anything that has polishing ingridients. I use the Nanolex Matte Paint range (shampoo, cleaner and sealer). With this applied, paint protection is the same as with a wax, only the paint is still matte.
The only bugger is when you get a scratch. You can't polish it out...
