Default Akrapovic slip-on not any louder

Sponsored Links
Just installed the Titanian slip-on cans and it doesn't really seem any different then stock on my 2009 848.
At idle it may be slightly louder but I don't really noice any difference when riding. If it is louder or deeper I can barely tell the difference. Took it for a short blast around my hood after install.

Anyone else have the same findings after doing the slip-on's?
Notice a bigger difference with a full system?

Well after doing the carbon akropovic slip ons I noticed the bike was louder all around. I can actually hear each cylinder fire on start up.

The concern should be power, not noise... right?

My opinion is that a full system would be the way to make more power with the slip-on's kinda being a way or hearing more of the music. I have a power commander I am about to install and get dyno tuned. Tuning is really the way to make more power safely and reliably. I happen to like the sound of the Akras I've heard.
The must have been full systems.

Is the slip on the same as the full system minus the header/mid section?
Maybe I can buy the rest if that's the case?
I bought the slip on's because they were available to me for a very good price otherwise I prob wouldn't have bothered.

Did you remove the noise dampers at the end of the mufflers? I had the same reaction you did. I also have the Akra titanium slip ons on m 09 848. The slip ons with the dampers installed caused the slip ons to be slightly louder than the stock mufflers. Removing the dampers made the Akra's noticeably louder.

A full exhaust system isn't going to give you any wows on the horsepower increase. You can buy the header and midpipe Seperate and there's no difference in cans. I agree with above sounds like he db killers still installed. If so remove the Allen screw and pull out the insert.

The real test would have been to use a Db meter as opposed to your own ears. Our ears can decieve us just as bady as a butt dyno can.

Because your mufflers are a few feet behind your ears, you'd be hard pressed to tell differences in noise properly as the sound is heading out behind you farther from your ears.

Very true P@, but going from stock (assuming he didn't have his baffles cut out) should have made a huge difference in sound!

I don't think they have any inserts but will take a look at them. I bought the bike with 600 miles on it and I know the previous owner did some things to it. Like when I swapped out the windscreen it already had tape on the bottom nuts so they wouldn't fall into the nose when you loosen then to remove the screen.
It's possible he removed the baffles in the stock cans and may be why I'm not hearing much of a difference with the Akra.
I will take some pics. These cans are not new but I paid very little for them so I'm not
Sweating it. Just curious.
Appreciate the comments.

Mike,

Sounds like the previous owner cut out the baffles. Which explains the very small difference in sound. The stock exhaust, with the silencers, sounds very mild. But after they are removed they actually sound great!
