Anyone ever have an issue putting the tank back on.

Canít seem to get it all the way forward to line up in the back. The front looks perfect though as thatís why Iím scratching my head.

The tank has expanded from the ethanol. Normal condition unfortunately. Dump the fuel, pull the pump, and let it air out and it should contract a tad.

Moto wheels sells a nice fuel tank bracket specifically for the 8 series bikes on this issue. I would get one of these anyways, since the stock bracket is some shitty piece of tin it seems.

Or if you're wanting to ride now, just set the tank in and give it some persuasion.

If the tank is indeed expanded, a simple solution would be corse-dynamics-adjustable-reinforced-fuel-tank-bracket-848-1098-1198

Some lubricant on the rubber and tank connection could get it seated properly.

Yeah, a rather notable issue with them. Do a little research and you'll see what I mean. It began on the 1098, as it was the first of the 8 series, but involved the 848 and 1198.

And yes, the link Dutch posted is what I was talking about. I would get one no matter what. The stock bracket is inadequate and can't withstand all the forces the tank is subjected to during ride time. I've personally broken 3 of them ha. Then again, I'm 215 ish leathered up and getting on the brakes and pushing/holding the sides of the tank abuses that little bracket quite well.

Hey thanks for the replies.

I really wanted to get a little test ride in and was determined to get that thing back on.

Man I remember my first time putting that expanded tank back on. Sucks. Glad you got it back together.

Thanks!

Yeah was a pain in the ass.

Although I got it on without the bracket I still went ahead and put the adjustable bracket on later.

Didnít want to go through fighting with it again.
