1098 - need a new 2nd black transponder key

Have been reviewing some old threads on this and still came out the other side confused on best course of action

I live in Australia and have a 1098s with only 1x black key. I have all the security codes and OEM notes that came with the bike but would like to create a spare black key - you know for that day when I go sh#t!, should've done that ages ago

So - the tech manual says its possible to introduce a new black key to the bike - since I already have a black key that works fine but many on this forum have tried unsuccessfully

Can anyone recommend a vendor of new black transponder keys and locksmith in Australia that can perform the programming work? - or last resort take do a dealer and get charged mega $$$.

Any help is appreciated

You should be able to get one cloned from just about any decent locksmith.
I live in Melbourne and my local locksmith had a key that looks close to the original and then added a cloned chip copied from the original key.
It works fine.

I have a new, in package black key direct from Ducati if you’d like. You shouldn’t have much issue doing it if you have the code.

I bought it before I realized I needed security codes to mate it. So I bought an aftermarket “programmable” key that looks exactly the same As OEM, and had a locksmith cut and program it. Cutting/programming was $90usd and the key was $35usd on eBay.
