2008 CBR 1000rr Vs 2008 1098s

So I have a internal struggle going on. The big boss just gave me the ok to buy a 1098s when I get home from my deployment. At first she said it was cool for me to buy a CBR 1000rr. But since she dropped this one one me, I'm thinking about running with it before she changes her mind. But here is the thing... I have a 2006 RC 51 and I WILL NOT get rid of it... I love that bike... But is is worth it getting a 1098s or should i stick with the 1000rr???? what would be the gain and what would I be losing if I did or did not get the 1098s.... I don't know little help

Well I had the opportunity to get any bike I wanted really, and I picked the Duc over anything and I did my research that's for sure and I don't regret it. All about personal preference and that's all it comes down to really. L-twin = powerful low end but still winds up the high end, inline-4 = ridiculous high end poopy low end but that's not all you should consider, just read every piece of stats/material you can. In my opinion the 1098s is a much higher end bike than a CBR1000. Bikes like that are 'asshole' bikes, because everybody has an asshole. hahaha that's what a dealer told me one day and it made a lot of sense to me.

I had the RC51 too. Once I got on the 998, I never look back at the japs. Everytime I walked by my 1098, I had to stop for a moment and look at it.

I grabbed me a Senna after I was debating whether to get a black 1098S or an 1198R. The last one in the US I think...I would go with what stimulates you more. I would think the 1098S would do the job over the Honda any day of the week.

If you have an RC, you might want to go with the 1000RR, just to have some more variety (as opposed to two big twins). The 1098S is a far superior bike to the RC, and will make you forget about it in a hurry (I know it's making me forget mine). I'd say sell the RC and replace it with the 1098S and the 1000RR - or a 600RR.

I have a 998, and was P.O.ed about serv. cost, so I bout a new 2004 RC-51.
Nice bike, but when ever I would go for a ride, It was on the 998. She terns me on.
In December when news on the 1098 stared, my RC went up for sale, it did not take long to go with less the 2000 miles on a 3 year old bike. I all ways rode the 998.
For me, what I liked about the RC, and love about the 998. Its times 2 for the 1098.
I have photos of all in my gallery, and they all still give me wood, but the 1098 gives so much more.
1) Hart attack
2)Angsiaty attack

Can't decide? Buy both of them! :naughty:

I have an RC51 and love it, thought I would keep it for ever until I got the 1098. Hurts to let it go, but the RC will need to be sold. I have also owned in line fours but will never go that route again as long as ducati keeps making L twin sportbikes.

Get the 1000RR

SeaPilot August 29th, 2007 03:30 PM

If you decide on the CBR1000RR, wait until the 2008 model is released. Honda is coming out with a total redesign that incorporates the same relative weight savings and power gains as the recent 2007 CBR600RR. Check out some of the reviews of the '07 CBR600RR to get an indication of the '08 CBR1000RR's potential.

I would not trade my 1098 for a current model CBR1000RR. I know because I sold a '04 CBR1000RR to buy the 1098. Even though the big CBR is slightly more potent as far as pure HP, the 1098 is a much more satisfying with regards to power delivery, sound, feel, handling and looks. I do, however, miss the top end rush of an inline-4. Can't have it all...

Yeah wait for the 08 CBR1K then reconsider- the 1098 will be accompanied by the 848 so they'll be available- then make your decision.

DU MAX August 29th, 2007 06:38 PM

there is a rumor Honda will make 08 CBR1000rr and new V engine bike, replacement of RC51 and VFR800.

Honda is going to reveal new model at Paris bike show this fall.... (around Sept 28th???) so it will be good yr to choose which model we can get :D

I say get the Duc! You won't regret it...

lee August 29th, 2007 07:25 PM

I have a Tricolore. It has it's peculiarities. That being said it is the finest, sweetest and and most thrilling piece of machinery I've ever owned or ridden. To say nothing about the sheer beauty of it. I just stand there and look at it even now. I'm 68 years old and have been screwing around with two wheeled stuff since I was 14, and I'm telling you this bike is the creme de la creme as far as I'm concerned. Peculiarities not withstanding.

Yeah I heard the words RC61 more than once...

I was going to buy a Repsol 1000RR before I saw and fell in love with the 1098. I always wanted a Duc and when I saw the 1098, it was everything I wanted except for the price.

I already own a 600RR and since it is paid for, it's still in my stable.

IMO ya just can't go wrong with Honda and with that said, Ducati is new to me but so far I am lovin' it!
