1098 Telling me its needs service

I'm looking to buy a 1098 but its saying it needs service upon startup. It has 6k miles on it so it shouldn't be the 7500 mile interval coming up. The owner says its the 600 mile service light and that its been on because he performed the service himself.

Can anyone enlighten me on what exactly is done at the 600 mile service and if this sounds sketchy or not? Thanks.

I just did the 600 mile check at 800 miles and never had a sevice light came on. The dealer did a oil and filter change, checked the chain and lubed it. Went over everything for $280. I think its worth it.

Oil and filter change, clean and examine the screen, belt tension check, and a general once over. A lot of people do their own maintance. The important thing is that the seller DOCUMENTED it (saved receipts hopefully). This is really all the dealership has to ensure that maintenence was done. If he didn't record and document it the warrenty on the bike COULD be void. Check to make sure it was documented correctly, and ask your local dealer what their thoughts are. (some dealers are more strict then others)

Bullshit. The 600 mile service is a simple oil change. That's all it is.

Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to wait for the 7500 mile service and get everything taken care of there. The shops I talked to say that runs $900 though. =(.

If you're handy with a wrench you can get away with a 7500 mile service for about 1/3rd that cost.

+1. Or as I like to say, a glorified oil change. Cecil is spot on. Save your money, bro for important things like exhaust systems and carbon fiber upgrades.

On my 600 mile svc on my SFS they realised I had 1 belt tight as a guitar string and the other loose as a pair of used panties, if you do your own svc don't overlook anything!
