How do I know if the front preload on the shocks is set to stock settings?

are you talking about the spring rate?

if so, what did he weigh vs. what you weigh.

Turn the preload all the way to the end, then count/measure the turns back.
Details are in your owner's manual.

Stock preload on the Showa forks were 18mm at the spring. Not sure how that translates to the adjusters though - sorry.

as Duc_Dreamin says above, its doesn't really matter if its stock setting, you should adjust Fork and Stock preload to your weigh while you are in riding gear. Compression and Rebound trial and error.
