Ive never had a stall problem on my 08 1098 but having to give this thing gas to get it started is getting old. I know I know, but man after owning six bikes two now being twins this is the only one with a starting problem. Yes it does stay on a tender when not ridden. Sorry to bitch but man this is getting old. Seems as though its getting harder to start. Even giving it gas it still goes through a couple cycles.

Is it really that hard? I know that if i leave mine sitting for a month and try to start it, it does cycle a couple times before starting, but it does start. I dono if its a tuning thing or what. IF i leave the bike sitting longer than a month, i have to press the button twice to get it started but i don't give it gas...... But this doesn't bother me cause i love the bike and once its warm starting is never a problem. Maybe it just needs to be ridden.

If you have to gas it then its a differnt issue. Mine was hard to start. The starter motor had troube turning the motor over. They replaced a small gear in the stater motor and it turns over and never had an issue since. It was an issue with some bikes the gear was too high.

Naw I ride in the rain, it gets ridden. ITS NOT HARD but man why does this happen. Bike ran great in the summer.

I always pt it up to the high compression of the bike. If you notice the head light turns off while starting. I'm guessing the bike needs every amp it can get to for the start to turn over those big pistons. This only happens to me when the bike is very cold and I have not started it in awhile. But when I was riding it and it was warm I've never had an issue.

But NGV. You bring up something that intrests me. Did Ducati do this on because it was a known problem. Or they just try something. My concern for this is because in a year when my battery is not as young as it is now will my bike start? Or should I push my dealer to do this to my bike now sinse it is already at the shop right now.

Having to give it gas sounds like a cpu programming issue. All I ever have to do is give the button a nudge and it's "all systems go" from there.

I believe it was with some early models, mine is April 07. I told my dealer the issue and he said there was a upgrade kit for the issue i mentioned. Another bike was in the shop having the same starter upgrade kit installed.

Mine says on the tender, and get rode in all weather, and has never had an issue starting?

With the ECU taking over the entire starting sequence, does the throttle even work while it’s turning over? Isn’t the fuel pump controlled by the computer? I could very well be wrong…

fwiw, mine sat for a couple of weeks in cold weather...i fired it up when i put stabilizer in the tank and it didn't want to start without me giving it some gas. i'm guessing it's an issue with the "fast idle" (or whatever you'd call it). my 1000RR never had the same problem - when it was really cold and sat for a few days it would fire right up but the engine would be revving HIGH (really high) until it warmed up. i think i'd prefer to give it some gas for a second vs. it being revved that high continuously when the engine is cold.

I too could be wrong and don't own a 1098 but.....
The fast idle button actually cracks open the throttle a tad and the TPS (throttle position sensor) then sends the 'position' via a voltage output to the 'computer'.

So yes - the computer does control fuel delivery (duration of the 'squirt') but only after receiving information from the various sensors, in other words the throttle does 'work' in that sense.

My suggestion to 10982NV is that 'that ain't right' and should be checked by your tech with the appropriate gear.
It could be the 'break in' period where everything settles in and invariably 'wanders' out of tune so to speak. These things should be checked during the first service.
10982NV - how many miles/kays? Had the first service? On time?

I agree, try having the dealer reset the TPS and go from there.
