1098S rear shock adjustment

The rebound adjustment on my 1098S is unusable. I tried enlarging the access hole, but it isn't going to work. Is there any solution for this well known problem? (other than a new shock). Does anyone make an aftermarket adjuster that could be put on? How hard is it to remove and replace the adjuster? Has ANYONE gotten this to work stock or all they ALL hosed this way?

I drilled a hole in line with the preload adjuster so now I only need to remove the footrest.

Did you have to take the chain off?

You need a good quality 3mm ball end allan key and turn it steadily. The adjuster recess can strip if you try to hurry it, or if you use a loose fitting key or force it.
