New bike .... new chick

Hey guys. I'm a 46 yr UK female lawyer. Always dreamt of owning a duc but as always, other things got in the way! However, following a very nasty divorce - the only dream that kept my chin up was that duc. I now have my own beautiful, stunning, growling 1098. Whenever I speak of that to-die-for gutteral throbbing clattering dry clutch sound my duc makes from those termis, my girlfriends roll their eyes in despair, my men friends just grin and my parents have completely disowned me. But I don't care. I have the most desired awe-inspiring bike there is - see attached piccies. And it invokes such passion and admiration and rightly so. The traffic parts in front of me, people turn around in the street. I had a guy pull up and wind his car window to tell me that bike was 'pure porn' and he blushed when he realised I was a girl! Hehehe! Naturally, as my first bike, I am treating it with t.l.c, as well as respect, care, sensible riding but each time, I push myself a bit more, testing my own capabilities as well as the bikes. I suspect I'll never find those limits out but I fully intend to be around for a long time enjoying this bike, so's that's probably a good thing! Shame we don't have better weather in the UK! Anyway, thought I'd share with you guys a female biker's dreams!

Welcome

Hi Legs.

congrats, I see you have your priorities sorted, bike lives inside.
If this is your first bike, go easy, at least you should be sorted for any speeding tickets, wish I was!!!

cheers

None. I went from nothing to the 1098. Straight up. Talk about blinkered. And I do envy many of you guys who have gone up 'through the ranks' and to have that history, that record of memories and scrapes on bikes that didn't matter so much. I did my training on an 800cc and seriously considered the ducati 848. But I just knew me...... I would be constantly hankering after the 1098. That's me all over I'm afraid. My only real concern ironically was there would be a few who would say 'what a waste - a bike like that with a bird'. Y'know? But whilst I'm a bit of a posh bird, I'm also a real tomboy and always have been. Had subscription to 'What Car' mag by the age of 13yrs ! However, when I voiced my concern to a fellow biker (Kawasaki Ninja), he said the biking world isn't like the car world where there would be that kind of judgemental jealousy. In the bike world, he said they'll probably just think 'Bet she does it'........ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I figured that was preferable! Hehehe.

Welcome and congrats on a new lease on life! That new Duck will make a great companion for the years to come!

Be sure you take a safety course if you haven't already. We all want to have you around and hear about all the modifications that we know you're going to be doing (right? )

Hi Numbah
Thanks for the kind concern. Don't know about the riding tests where you are but here in the UK, they are anal about safety, licences, tests, hazard perception, theory tests, etc etc. I have had to pass all that first - even though I've been driving motors for 26 years. The irony is that the biggest and most important part of riding is your mirrors. You don't check your mirrors every 10 yds on your advance motor test - then you fail it. And here we are on the 1098 - mirrors? Well, they're pants. Nice view of my elbows. So, my kawasaki friend has bought a little gizmo camera to fit on the back of the bike, as an additional viewer of what's going on behind the bike. Believe me, I am taking this quite seriously and will not underestimate this powerful bike. But I'm still sitting here with a big grin on my face and I still go down to the underground garage (under my apartment) and visit her 'just to check all is quiet' before going to bed. Sad, eh? Methinks I might need a man.... but not just yet!
