Code readers, are they necessary

Hi There,

I am thinking about getting into the scan M5X app.

Just to read trouble codes or can you monitor the health of your engine with these Apps if you know what to look for. My question is that it looks like problem codes it does read are issues that sound like they kill the motor and I am going to take to a mechanic for. I mean they sound like they are big issues that a qualified mechanic would be needed.

I do not think I will install maps because I would probably brick the ECU. I have the race chip installed with the Termi. Slip-ons so I do not think a couple of HP increase is worth the risk. I think maybe suspension is where I should spend money first.

What can you tell me about apps and the troubles I can cure with them.

If you can't be fast at least look fast!
