Well I don't know about "lesser men" because I figure we are all the same passionate Ducati owners but I did buy it to use it so it will be out and about somewhat regularly.

Update:
It's at the logistics center. They inspected and catalogued everything and it will be off to me in the next few days. They ship a lot of Ducati race bikes for the factory and they said the bike looks like a brand new display bike that has never even been ridden. I expect that it will be here in Colorado within a week. Brian and his crew at Boulder Motorsports will receive it, go over it thoroughly, and put in all new fluids and then I'll pick it up and start riding it.

It showed up at boulder Motorsports and it's as perfect as advertised. It came with absolutely everything except for the engraved radiator cap gift for the first owner.

I'll ride it home on Tuesday, hopefully.

I've added close to 300 miles on it since I've gotten it. I'm still getting to know it but I'm really impressed with it.

Congratulations on your new SL. Really like the coloring better on your 2014, over the 2017. I was also very close to pulling the trigger on a 2014SL recently. BUT I cheesed out and bought a R.

Ride safe.

Thank you. Honestly, I felt it was the right time to buy a nearly new 2014 SL. A ton are coming on the market as owners take delivery of their 1299SLs and I feel like that the 1199SL is much more suitable bike to me. With so many on the market and relatively few buyers to absorb that many at one time, the prices have to reflect that.

That said an R is an awesome bike. I love them. If the price difference were a little more, I would probably have gone with an R but I just felt that the timing and price was just right for the 2014 SL and maybe in the future, I wouldn't get a look at a virtually new one at anything near this price again.

Thanks again.

I am looking at adding a Superleggera and I have some questions for you that own an SL already. Here goes:

1) I am looking at three bikes. All have low miles (like less than 600). One is basically unridden. Not a single one has any warranty remaining. I know that there are at least two recalls affecting SLs, the clutch assembly recall and the Ohlins shock recall. Obviously I will check with Ducati North America to see if they have had the recall done but what else am I looking at as far as potential problems with an essentially new SL with zero warranty remaining?

2) My intention is not to leave any of these as low mileage garage queens. I don't have tons of time to ride but whichever one I buy will get ridden regularly. I think it's a serious problem for bikes like this to not get exercised regularly. With that said, while it's hard to find one with any real milage, am I better off finding one with 5k miles that's been properly sorted? I figure that this comes back to the experience of the owners as to how their ownership experience has been.

3) Lastly, if you had to do it all over again, would you buy another SL or would you buy something else - say an R or something and do some upgrades?

Thanks in advance.

Now that you have your SL, can you answer your own questions?

Oh sorry, I didn't realize what you were asking. I thought you were just asking if I could answer those questions now that I've had the bike for a while. Here goes:

1) I don't think that the SL is prone to issues that other Panigales don't have. In the 9 months I've owned it, the issues I had, which I blame 100% on the bike's lack of use and set up as a stationary display bike, consisted of two MAP sensors going bad (one on each cylinder and different times) and a short in a circuit due to a lambda sensor wire getting burned on the exhaust. All were inexpensive and easy fixes although I went a step further on the lambda sensor issue by installing an Akrapovic exhaust from one of the WSBK rounds that doesn't have lambda sensors but that's a whole other story. I'll attach a couple of pics of it. Anyways, it's been pretty reliable and I expect (knock on wood) for it to stay that way as I continue to ride and maintain it.

2) I don't think it matters. It's almost a year later and the market is different yet I bought a 62 mile bike for $40k and even now, I wouldn't change a thing. I wouldn't have waited for the market to go down more, I wouldn't have tried to buy a higher mileage bike for less money, etc. etc. In hindsight, I got very lucky and I'm glad I was able to get the bike I got when I got it. I think that anyone looking for an SL can find a bike at a good price with the right amount miles for them. I don't think that there is any real advantage to one mileage over another as long as you know that any bike that hasn't been ridden will need some sorting.

3) If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't change a thing. In fact, if I didn't love all of my older Ducatis so much and I liked the new ones more, I would buy two or three 1199 Superleggera at these prices. It's way too much bike for the money and a very real and legit "special" bike. It would be cool to have a couple of them to set up slightly differently from each other and use regularly.
