Oooh ... 1989, original mirrors, original brake master. many of the 851 / 888 bikes have had
'improvements' done. good job finding an original.

i love these bikes. i can stare at mine for hours it seems. it has something thats missing from the 916 style. no 851 before 1990 was imported (legally) into the US, so we hardly ever see bikes like yours.

question: my 1990 is some kind of EU / US hybrid ... i think one of the first 851s in the US. it has a 14 digit VIN which looks like ZDM851S3 xxxxxx and was a bitch to register because it doesn't conform to the US VIN requirements (17 digits). if i can ask ... what's the format of the VIN onr yours??

Interesting. The mother ship (ducati Italy) says my bike
Was built for Europe, but it's clearly American ... Us dot
Lighting, us smog equipment. I think it was originally
European but was converted by the factory for import
To the us. Strangely, the us owners book shows
The 14 digit vin. I guess I'll never know the true
History.
