2012 M696 rear brakes

Good evening fellow mad scientists! I have an uber newbie question for the forum: recently when using mr rear brake, I'm noticing the lever almost hitting the floor before I can feel the brakes catch. The brake fluid looks full in the window, so I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe I need new pads??? Any help, even someone yelling at me and yelling me that I'm dumb is some help...thanks
