New Ducati XDiavel plays starring role at 73rd edition of EICMA

EICMA 2015 opens its doors to the public: new Ducati 2016 bike range on show at stand M-04, Hall 15
‘Total black’ stage dedicated to the XDiavel, an undisputed ‘star’ of the show
Eight new Ducati bikes enthral the crowds at the Milan fair

Milan, November 18 2015 – Ducati presents its 2016 bike range at the 73rd edition of EICMA, the international motorcycle exhibition being held at the Milan Trade Fair in Rho November 19-22, with over 1300 square metres of exhibition space. This is a big event for Ducati which, after two days reserved for the press and those in the motorcycle industry, is now ready to show off its new 2016 range to the public.

Ducati is presenting eight new bikes at this event, of which no less than seven are completely brand new, two Ducati Scramblers (Flat Track Pro and the Sixty2 versions), the new Hypermotard 939, Hypermotard 939 SP and Hyperstrada 939 to complete the family, the 959 Panigale, the Multistrada Pikes Peak, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro and the eagerly awaited XDiavel. Completing this array of new bikes for 2016 is the Monster 1200 R, previewed in September at IAA 2015 in Frankfurt.

The XDiavel has already become one of the undisputed stars of this 73rd edition of EICMA. Even during the first two days set aside for press and industry operators, the ‘black box’, area dedicated to this latest Ducati, was practically swamped by those eager to get a close look at this new cruiser.

Black. Sophisticated. Stylish. Three keywords that accompanied the XDiavel all the way to its unveiling at the Ducati World Première 2016. Now, at EICMA, Ducati has dedicated an important part of its stand to the XDiavel, replicating that same style - an elegant ‘total black’ - to recreate the world that identifies this bike.

With this fascinating bike Ducati enters the cruiser domain and does so in its own inimitable way, presenting a true cruiser but with all the design, technology and performance one expects from a Ducati thoroughbred. The XDiavel brings together two worlds: the cruiser world - low speeds, relaxed riding and long journeys - and the Ducati world, characterised by Italian style, refined engineering and unparalleled performance.

The XDiavel offers both the ‘low speed excitement’ that comes from the relaxed riding and further-forward footpegs typical of a cruiser and the adrenaline rush of sports riding that Ducati has made its own. That's what the X in XDiavel stands for: the merging of two apparently separate, distant worlds on one bike, a superb combination where both are accomplished without compromise.

5,000, 60, 40. Three numbers that sum up the XDiavel concept. 5,000 as in the rpm at which the new twin-cylinder 156 hp Ducati Testastretta DVT 1262 engine achieves maximum torque (13.1 kgm). 60 as in the number of different ergonomic configurations for the rider. Lastly, 40, as in the maximum attainable lean angle. The XDiavel is the first Ducati to use belt-type final transmission, a must within the cruiser world.

The Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), together with Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Riding Modes, Bosch ABS Cornering, Cruise Control and the innovative Ducati Power Launch (DPL) system make the XDiavel a technological gem offering high performance and safety. An S version of the XDiavel is also available.

Moreover, at EICMA 2015 there are not only bikes at the Ducati stand: there are also new accessories and apparel, such as those specially designed for the Ducati Scrambler world or the collection dedicated to the XDiavel. The stand also features a shop area where visitors can purchase tech-wear or sportswear; new Ducati SuMisura (Made To Measure) leathers can also be ordered at a dedicated corner stand, letting users create and personalise their own exclusive Ducati riding leathers.

Forked over a deposit on a XD S yesterday. I wanted something little different and laid back. Thinking this is the one

Can someone give me the Cliff notes as to what makes the XD different from previous Diavels? Other than the color, it looks pretty much the same. Is this just a minor tweaked version or is there something radically new I'm missing?

Forward foot controls. Belt drive. More hp and torque in lower revs to name a few.

It uses the dvt 1198, the old diavel doesn't not. swing arm design is different. the old diavel is a high revving 1198, xdiavel is low revving. I wants one....

They also removed the ugly fighter jet intakes on the sides of the tank. Looks much better than the previous model.

i finally got my XDiavel. I have about 200 miles on her. The bike is very good looking. Handles amazing for a fat rear stretched cruiser. it is very fast as you would expect for a ducati. It is is flying at 7k. Belt drive looks great and sounds smooth. Mirrors are useless because of the vibrations. I got the S because I wanted the better brakes. it is a super fun bike. Cruise control, bluetooth, all sires of other stuff. The only thing I do not like right now is the sound. It is way too muted for a bike that looks so badass. I just ordered the termi for it.

how do you like the sound? also, the knob you have to turn to turn the display on and off must have been designed for elves. I struggle every time to turn it

The bike has an angry spot from about 70 mph up. Very short throttle and hold on. It's refined and sophisticated for a racing bike, and it needs a personality like a Panigale; loud.

I took delivery on 3/24 and have only had a chance to ride it twice. I can say I absolutely love it. My main bike before this one was an RC51sp2, so I wanted to have a bike that could perform, but also be comfortable for long rides. Ducati have nailed it mostly...and the only reason why I say mostly is because it does have an identity crisis to a degree. It performs very well with great throttle response, steering, grip and grunt. I found myself smiling damn near the entire ride.

As I rode longer on Saturday, I noticed the low speed compression is great, but the high speed compression makes it a harsh ride over any rough pavement. I have not spent any time setting up my suspension, so that may make a world of difference, but I have a feeling the suspension is going to be only somewhat compliant...and that's my problem. It wants to perform and be a versatile cruiser, but in reality it is a superbike with forward controls and the rider can sit flat-footed at a red light. I love it and it really doesn't bother me tooling around on a Saturday, but if I wanted to take it on a trip for a few days, I am going to be more worn out than someone on a bagger. Don't get me wrong, I am going to take it on long trips and ride it everywhere because the torque and relaxed position is an intoxicating mix, I am just going to be a little more tired than my friends on traditional cruisers.
