Any ideas how this pad comes off? I have material to match the new seat cover I'd like to install but, to do it the right way, I need the pad off the tank.

I haven’t done it but seem to remember photos long ago that’s it was kinda snapped on some steel molding on the tank.

It's held on with strong double sided tape and sometimes some urethane adhesive. Best method is to use strong fishing line or similar to 'saw' through the tape/adhesive. There is also a metal dome that it locates on (not a clip or anything just a locator) - if you're fitting a carbon tank pad you'll need to cut this off with a dremel or similar tool (hacksaw at a pinch if you're careful).
