I would bet your VR would be compared to what is spec'd for the recall and if similar would be left alone, but the battery box would be updated. At least that's what my dealer told me when I paid to have my VR replaced since it wasn't covered. Further, they said they were going to reimburse my cost for parts and labor when the recall was issued and I had the work done.

Has anyone either recieved a recall notice or had their dealer replace the reg under warranty before a failure? My bike's an early model so without even looking I'm assuming I have the faulty one. On the last few starts after I hit the button it took about 1-2 seconds before it even started to turn over when it was hot. Seems OK when cold.

Did those of you whose VR went bad have any abnormal advance indications that something wasn't quite right or different? Particularly when starting hot or cold? I would think that would be the first place it would show up due to not charging the batt enough to turn it over but still enough to keep it running.

The only way I noticed was when I was almost home after a short ride.

I was pricking around with the menu at the last set of lights before home and noticed the volts were down to 11.5

After I got home I selected the Batt menu, left the bike idling and watched the volts drop down to around 10v then the warning light came on.

If the ride had been longer it would have crapped out on the road. Just dumb luck I got home.

The dealer was good, I expressed my worry about the batt and said I thought it should be replaced as well, he agreed. Not sure if they put an updated reg or not but it's still going.

My headlights, dashlight, and turn signals went out. This just happened to be on my first night time ride.:wtf::wtf::wtf: Lucky for me, I had a friend riding along! I made the 40 mile trip home using his headlight. When the bike was parked everything worked fine, but as soon as I started riding it all went black again!:banghead: Turned out, that my VR was charging too high. Had it replaced, along with a new battery under warranty. 1.5 hours:D:D
