John is fantastic. He charges $75. Well worth the money. He has a reputation of running the most honest dyno around. If something is wrong with the bike he will tell you. If your bike is fine he won't try to sell you something you don't need. My bike could pick up a horse or two if I bought a power commander and leaned it out a little. John thought it was not worth it to spend the money. I agree. If I want more power, I'll ride my F4 1000. :naughty:

Hey, did it cure your stalling problem? I actually have to get out there as well, just haven't had the time to make the trip.

As for John, he's an awesome guy! Met him back when I had the MV, as he rides an MV as well. Highly recomend his services for anyone interested!

I don't know yet....I rode it home through some pretty brutal traffic and it did not stall but it's done that before. I'll be taking it out again today. It does seem to run smoother at idle.

Those numbers are about right. 135hp at the rear wheel with the stock system and 145hp with the full system. I was told that if I run it a little leaner 13-14 air/fuel, I could pick up between 3 and 6hp.

CAG, is it possible to safely run a little lean on this thing? I mean, does it have a knock sensor to play with the timing, in case it starts detonating? I'm assuming it has electronic timing. I was wondering about this the other day that I had to use some 87 octane gas. I was really easy on it until I got to a gas station with 91, just in case.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought the higher the number the leaner it went. 15:1 meant 15 parts air, one part fuel, etc.

By the way, to run lean, what would you need? An entirely new fuel map?

You would need a new fuel map. Since the ecu is not tunable, you need a power commander.

Running leaner will give more power. In the old days, you ran the risk of melting a piston, now with computers and variable ignition timeing I have no idea. I think the numbers on the graph represent air:fuel. so the higher the number, the greater the ratio of air to fuel. I could be wrong about this. John said the bike is a little rich; that it should be around 13-14.

It runs great, has plenty of HP, doesn't stall. I don't have any interest in fiddleing with it for a few extra HP.

Dyno in Phoenix

I had a great run at the North Valley Honda dyno. Mark Ledesma is the best dyno tech in the valley and I had him do a dyno break-in on my new yellow 1098. This went against everything I've ever done with my previous bikes, but what the heck, I've heard great things from Mark Ledesma's break-in technique.
After all the hype the dyno numbers are:

140.73 Rear Wheel Horse Power
85.79ft/lbs of torque

Bike feels explosive from 2500rpm's - 10500rpm's, powers up wheelies in 1st and 2nd gear = MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER:flamethro

Is that standard HP or SAE? Standard will always read a little higher than SAE.

I did a dyno shootout with mine at a harley shop.

There was no gas analyzer and no torque reading, but the max HP was 146.99, the room was 93degrees F.

The bike is bone stock with 1800 miles.

I have read quite a few articles that said it makes 148 rwhp out of the box.

Why the difference?

So the dyno break in it seems to me is the right way to break in a bike...I have read those are the machines that really make the most power! Besides it is a blast to ride after the break in is done as quickly as possible :)
