1098 Fairing advice please

I ride a 07 1098s and recently i was having a little too much fun one night, "may have been 5-10mph over :blah: " and coming around a corner a car pulled out from a hidden side street so i had to take it off road to avoid going through the car. long story short now im sitting around with a shattered hip at 29 years old and some busted up plastics... Other than the fairings and some other misc parts the bike seems fine, tough machine considering what it went through! So i think i can think i can save the side panels (hoping) with some new paint which is fine, i can get good paint jobs done pretty cheap, so i need to find a nose and tail fairing not cracked or broken and just paint it all or go with aftermarket. Of course i would like to go with OEM if possible, but its looking difficult to find and expensive which is the real issue for me at the moment.

So, does have anyone have experience with these chinese aftermarket fairing sets? they look decent and are cheap, anyone run them? have some feedback on fitment, color, quality or whatever...

I figure worst case i will run them for a year while i collect the oem bits and do the paint next year, really, im not super worried about plastic as long as they fit and function and dont look like total junk. Im all about the ride (the fact that the 1098s is one of the sexiest things i have ever seen is just a little bonus)

So those are the two options im looking at, any feedback, advice, or suggestions (places to search other than here and ebay) is very welcomed and appreciated! Or if you just wanna blast me because i was dumb enough to wreck a 1098 thats fine to!!! haha :stickpoke wish i would have had the ironhead out that night... Thanks!

I have the left and right mid fairings off my red 1098s that are mint. I converted my bike to a track bike and they are just sitting in my garage. Let me know if you are interested. Yeah you say you can get them painted, but is it really worth it? Are you getting the work done so cheap and to your satisfaction that you think its worth it? If it ends up being crap, then you wasted your money. These 2 pieces I have are beautiful.

I sold the nose (mint) to a local guy for if I remember correctly, $275. The tail I think went for somewhere in the same area, like 2-300$ range. Of course your cheapest price for OEM stuff is used. Retail OEM prices are just too high to me.

I have heard the chinese stuff is crud if you try to compare it to OEM. If you didnt compare it, then it might be OK. If you really want a mint looking beautiful 1098s, you likely wont be happy with that stuff.

Thanks Agr0, and that would be ideal to go back to all oem and i will keep you in mind and see if you still have them when i could take them off your hands. I need to focus on the parts i really need. I work construction, i was poor before and now i can't work, not getting any easier! haha Thats why im really trying to figure out how i can at least be riding by spring, even if its not the ideal situation. As for paint i thats not a huge issue, i have a good friend who's a really good painter, he hooks me up pretty good. We usually just end up trading parts, labor and beer! So if i do that im just gonna go close to stock red as i can and do some red and white, nice and classy, traditional race style.
Thanks again, and i will let you know if i can get those sides from you.
Glad to hear that your OK - sounds like an easy fix too !

I'd try to keep it OEM.. used fairings always pop-up here for sale.

Good thing is that the 848/1098/1198 fairings are all interchangeable.

I run a full set of the Chinese made and painted fairings. Fit was good and finish wasn't to bad either. The paint chipped a little easier than I would have liked but for the $500 it cost for the fairings and have them paint it as I wanted it, I can't complain. Probably order up another set as I want to change the colouring slightly and it's cheaper then having a bodyshop do it.
Why don't you let insurance take care of it?
