I don't know if any of you have experienced this. I started my bike while it was on the kickstand. As I started to back away to put on my gear the bike followed me and had I not been beside it and caught it it would have gone over. The kickstand wasn't fully forward and folded up. Really dumb on my part,and I'll never do that again. My dealer had a brand new 1098 which did the same thing only he wasn't lucky enough to catch it and over it went. So make sure that thing is fully forward before you let go. Me, I'm going to put a stronger spring on mine and never leave it without making sure it's where it should be.

I have heard other post about this as well. I now make it a habit to double check mine before leaving it...

Me too, sometimes, I put my foot pushed forward on the kickstand while I lean her over just to be 100% sure.

After i get off, I pull it back to make sure its locked; and before that a choose my spot carefully; you know angle of the dangle and wind load, and nasty people behind trees.

When I get on the stand goes up. Same every time...

I don't think it is a Ducati thing. It is true for all bikes. Once you dropped one this way then you will remember it for the rest of your riding days to always double check the secureness of the side stand and/or the ground it rests on.

I had the same issue with my 1098. Unfortunately, my bike did tipped-over and did some damages (bent handlebar, lever, scratches, etc..). I don't remember having this problem with my previous Ducatis but live and learn.

I'll tell what the problem is. When the kickstand is down it does not "overcenter" allowing the spring tension to keep it forward. Rather the spring is lined up with the pivot points and is effectively useless for retaining the stand in the forward position. I took some meat out of the kickstand where it bears on the bracket in the down position to allow it to overcenter. I made a new spring bracket which reaches further back so that the centerline of the spring is now behind the pivot. This one isn't going to come back unless I want it to.

I'm sorry but I've got the whole thing back on the bike. It isn't that big a job. If you take the assembly off the bike (red loctite on those cap screws) and look where the kickstand hits the bracket when down you'll see two little "ears" on the bracket which stop the kickstand from going forward. I "notched" out the kickstand about an 8th of an inch to allow it to swing more forward. (It's now about 10 to 15 degrees fwd of vertical). The hard part is making up a new piece between the spring and kickstand. It' a daffy looking little curved bracket. I just made a new one out of .080" ss which allowed the stand to go more fwd. I also made it beefier than the stock by not duplicating the oem but left it more triangular in shape. It works great now. When I hold the stand straight down and let go it snaps fwd with a vengeance. And I didn't have to use the tool kit. Heh heh.
