Is anyone aware of any performance upgrades for the engine on a 1098? The only performance upgrades I can find is exhaust/intake/ecu. I understand that the bike is already very fast, but I would be interested in room for expansion. Also does anyone know which exhaust system provides the most power? I'll be getting a 1098 in the Spring, and I want to get the right parts. Thanks for your time.

I believe an Italian company (forgot the name) is producing high-comp pistons for the 1098 that are identical in weight to that of the OEM pistons, thus eliminating the need to having the engine torn apart and everything balanced up again... They're by no means cheap. If I remember correctly I think they were each around $600 a pop, which is pretty damn pricey for a piston.

I guess once the "R" comes into play, DP or some other aftermarket venue may release a big bore kit, if it isn't already in development...

You can also always play around with the clutch / flywheel... Reducing weight there will help your engine rev up faster...

High comp pistons! Hell, the thing already runs 12.5:1, any higher and you would have to burn full race fuel...no thanks. I'm waiting for the "R" kit.

I'd go with the full 70mm Termi. My buddy has it and is getting about 151rwhp. The drop-in piston kit would probably be great if it's a reliable source. (You don't want to be the guinea pig, go with a shop that has a running example) The Nichols flywheel will make the bike rev so fast and porting and polishing, if done correctly, will also add power.

Keep in mind that you will probably lose low end power with almost all of these options, particularly the Termi and especially the porting. The Nichols flywheel likes to be spun and your idle can get choppy, you can count on it if combined with the porting. Just be aware that the bike will become less rideable at low RPMs/street speeds as you modify the engine.

That's a high-level rant because that's how I understand it...I'm sure there are others who can chime in too.

Do you just need to purchase the fly wheel or are there other parts that need to be replaced with the flywheel?
Where can you get them and how hard are they to install, ive heard that this mod gives you the biggest bang for your buck, can any one shed some more light on the pros and cons of changing this componant.

You won't lose low end with these mods. The full Termi system puts out more power everywhere over stock. High compression pistons also put out more power everywhere. Porting will also increase power eveywhere, unless the ports are enlarged significantly or just done wrong. The flywheel will improve low rpm throttle response but will require a higher idle speed.
