I was wondering whether it is possible to mate/couple the horizontal and vertical header pipes from a 1098R to the downstream Termignoni parts from the 1098. The reason I ask is that I am about to replace the engine in my Tricolore with a 1098R engine and would like to use as much of the 1098 Termi presently on the bike as possible, as it is in excellent condition and do not want to fork out for a whole new Termi setup. My feeling is that the Tricolore should have been release as a commemorative model, with the 1098R engine, and numbered. But, to expect the obvious from Bologna is to expect too much! Anyways, thanks for your thoughts and insights.

Yep, I did exactly this same thing about 4 weeks ago..... almost identical scenario. Swapped 1098 heads for 1098R heads on an engine. The only difference is the short manifold stub and they were perfectly interchangeable.

The 1098 Tricolore was a 'Limited production' bike, not 'limited edition'. This means the factory only made as many as they received orders for. A total of 1013 units were ordered worldwide and that is all that were produced. I spent a long time corresponding with the factory to obtain a documented list of how many were made and sent to each country.

Just because they don't have a number on them doesn't make them any less special. IMO the 'special order' nature of this specific model makes it more unique than many others. Keep in mind the Tricolore was a 2007 bike and the R option didn't come along until later.
